165K+ on my 78 and it runs like a champ. Up at Daytona this weekend for club race (specator and pit b*tch for some mates). If the weather was better I would drag out the 59 conv-d.

Im going for the 500,000 mark, will see how that goes and who actually achieves it. My bet is my daughter.

My 82' 911 SC still has the 3.0 in it. Almost 180k and it runs fantastic. I've kept up on the maintenance though on the clock and been meticulous as i can be going through it when things need attention and am also very preventative on maintenance. I burn about 1/2 to a little under 1qt every 680 miles just depending on driving habits and such.

Mine appears it's had the engine opened on at least one side as the return tubes on one side were replaced with expandable tubes. Love it though, great car. I drive it as my daily in all weather day in and day out and she has never left me stranded or given me any trouble.

The gold car in this photo is a 1980 SC with over 400k miles and has been a daily driver since the early 1980's. It's had the engine rebuilt at least once that I know of. I hope mine is still going as strong at that mileage.

The expandable tubes are designed to avoid opening the engine.

Someone told me that they are to do that, but that to install them in the first place it needs to come off. Is this not true? Perhaps the information I got was incorrect in that case.

Maybe your just confused .. the originals can be crushed and ripped out with the engine in place and the new expandable ones inserted, again , with the engine in place .. if i ever had the exhaust off however i would seriously think about putting the expandable ones in if mine were even seeping . Although not impossible to do working around the exhaust to expand those tubes is a pain .
Also if my engine were droped for a top end I would definitely replace with the one piecers no matter what .

That makes a lot more sense. Thanks for the clarification. I am learning so much about these cars lol. But I love every minute of it

There was a really cool early 70's 911 at Rennsport that had 462,000 miles (and counting). Car looked great. Not sure about rebuilds but owner used it for street/track/rally/road trips. Very cool.

These cars/motors are great but will need a rebuild at some point. Cool thing is, these cars are worth rebuilding motors on. I have an '88 Carrera with 132k. I had motor rebuilt at 129k only because valve guides were shot and car was making a lot of smoke. Still ran great though.

Always get PPI by reputable shop. Leakdown/compression numbers too.
