Sounds like your synchros are shot . Not uncomon for a 915 transmision . you can always check your bushings in the shifter or in the coupler ( its below the panel between the two rear seats on the floor ) , it could also be in the adustment of the shifter but usually it comes down to synchros. Sounds like your Gear box might have to come out . You also might consider letting an experienced 915 guy drive it. if you find it hard to get in and you jamb it .. you can only do more damage.

welcome - I am not so quick to say you need a new transmission...let a fellow 915 owner drive it.
some things to help:
Kendall NS-MP oil (might have the letters mixed up order)
coupler bushings
coupler adjustment
shift tower cup and socket (plastic)
clutch adjustment
driving style (try hitting 2nd or other gear before hitting first

Ivangene is right. Make sure all bushings are in good shape and adjusted correctly. This should be a simple and inexpensive operation for a qualified shop.
Also, Ed is correct is catching another gear with the clutch mashed in before trying first. It is always my habit to sneak it into reverse befor comeing across into first.
Congrats on your car and welcome to the right place to share in the enthusiasm. Ask lots of questions here on Rennlist. You will find the industries best advice here and it is well worth ponying up the 18 bucksfor a membership.

+1 Even all my stoopid questions have been answered by the good folks. It's a great group, well worth it and great for lively debate!

First, nice ride!
How bad is it and what's the mileage since rebuild? Sometimes, I need to work the shifter into first, sort of "feel" it in. Also sometimes when shifiting to second, need to also "feel" it in. You might also find reverse will grind, if you transition too quickly from a forward. All this passed my PPI with flying colors, so not of concern. I have 76k on the original gearbox.

Nice car, and I'd concur about the wheels and tail. And, as mentioned before, get a chin spoiler on there-don't drive at any high rate of speed until you do. You've got a bad setup with the tail and no spoiler.

Until you get the gearbox fixed, try this in the meantime.
Before shifting to first or second, go to neutral, let off the clutch, back in on the clutch then go into gear. You can sometimes just go to second before going to first.

Okay thanks for the advice guys, the gearbox has about 40k on it and a full engine rebuild has about 30k (thank you po!) its not super bad, sometimes first goes in like butter but then sometimes im sitting at a green light taking 3 tries to get it into first (i dont try to force it) amd sometimes going into second i have to wait until it goes down to idle to get it in. i dont think its bad synchros, i will try bushings get the linkage checked and get a high performance gear oil put in ( made a huge difference in my acura rsx-s) and as far as the rims and tail goes, i personally LOVE the tail and am currently searching for a chin spoiler (if anyone is trying to get rid of theres let me know) and i agree the rims are about one inch too big but they still are the bbs/porsche rims and not some cheap knock off crap at least. it was a very well documented and well taken car of car. thanks again for the help

The 915 tranny is finicky, after fluid and bushings you just need to feel your way. Revs, speed of shifting, and how warmed up the tranny is all make a difference. After a while you will get the hang of it, just don't force it!
One trick is to shift into first just as you are stopping but still rolling. I tend to go to neutral and place the shift lever at the entry point to first with just a little pressure and wait. Eventually, it opens up almost feels like it decides to invite the lever into gear. Sounds weird, I know.![thumbsup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/bigok.gif)
Second comes more easily if I make sure to get the revs up a bit (say 3500) and get the shift going soon, but not too fast.
Good luck!
