Default Engine number question

The engine number I have in my 1973 911 E Targa is 6235579.

I have the Porsche 911 Red Book, but I am unable to locate that number in the book. I am trying to confirm what year and model the engine is from. I do know it is not original to the car. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you

Here you go.. You seem to have the right engine :

You just might want to double check the engine type since the serial number is beyond the listed numbers on this page

The 623 designation would indicate the engine is a 1973 911E engine but as you note also the serial number is so out of the range. The engine type is 911/91 which means it is an engine from a 1973 911T, in that case the serial number is well within the range but then the 623 does not apply. The information on the engine is conflicting.
