I'm selling some Design 90 wheels off my 944 S2 on Ebay, and I've gotten several questions about if they'll fit on late 70s/early 80s 911SCs. Do they? I'm guessing yes, but I don't want to tell people the wrong thing.

I believe the offset is not correct for the earlier cars, so no they dont fit out of the box. But, I have seen these wheels on a car, but he used spacers to push them out; not sure on the exact spacer size though.

Design 90 were on 911 and 944s - so not sure if they have a different off set for each car,
but Design 90s from a 964 Carrera i.e. after 1989 won't fit onto pre 1989 911s.
Spacers have to be pretty big, think about 40mm at the back.

Design 90s only appeared on 964s and 944S' from the factory, and I don't believe there's an aftermarket company that has reproduced these either.
After all...IMHO, they're UGLY!
So I'm assuming these are factory Design 90 wheels, so they will have the backspacing needed for the factory four-piston brake calipers that were on the 944"S", 968 and 964.
NO, they wouldn't be a good choice for a pre '89 911 as the cost in spacers would negate the deal one could easily get on a set of Design 90s.
I don't mean to sound so sarcastic about the cosmetic appearance of these wheels...it's just that particular subject has been hashed out a few times on the 964 board - good old fashioned joking about.
...and the results were pretty funny! <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />

Dear Jeff,
I am with you again today. Boy what a day. I found the perfect use for my design 90 wheels. Garden umbrella stands. Stick the centre cap on the top of the umbrella.
Ciao,
Adrian

PS: I could not even give my design 90s away. My daughter would not even consider them on her 944.
They make good cheap track wheels though.
