Default Removing rear spoiler on 81 SC?

Can anyone tell me how big a deal it is to remove the rear spoiler on an SC Targa? Not a big fan of the way it looks. Does it require a new deck lid or does it just bolt off? Any advice is appreciated.

It depends on which version you have: some are bolted onto the OEM steel lid, and others are complete separate fiberglass units.

Its likely that you'll need another stock decklid to replace the one you have.

Yes you need a new decklid, the whale tail bolts through the decklid leaving holes.
Could close it, but I would just get a new one if I were you and leave the tail as one piece.

If you don't like the spoiler, sell it -- and the decklid -- as a single piece. Buy an unmolested decklid to replace it. The alternative is to spend more than the cost of a decklid on repairing the holes, and then throwing away a spoiler because it doesn't have a matching lid.
