Default Heating and A/C on 83 911 SC

I am looking at a higher mileage 1983 911 SC that underwent a top end rebuild a little over a year ago by a reputable shop. The car is clean and runs strong.

Only major downsides are heater and A/C have been taken out, most likely for performance reasons.

In terms of cost, if I'm not doing the work myself, what can I expect to pay in have the A/C and heat reinstalled. With the A/C any advice in terms of upgrade kits. From the feedback on the board it doesn't sound like the A/C units in the 80's models were much to write home about.

It it worth the expense of having A/C and heat reinstalled? I live on the east coast ... so I have probably answered my question.

Thanks much for your feedback.

Do you have the parts? If one has an intact AC system, you can spend $1500-2000 in parts to make it fairly efficient. If you start from scratch, it may be an ugly battle.

If you're not proficient enough to do it your self you certainly need to try and get a break on the parts.
If you're patient and keep a sharp eye here and pelican you can find almost everything you need maybe
as little as 500.,a complete set up went for 200 (a/c only, very cheap) on pelican off of an 86 turbo last week, most anything from 78-89 will retro fit to an SC.
Since a set up did once reside on your car it's not like recreating the wheel, particularly for heat although
a used set of heat exchangers can set you back 5-800.
It will require someone who knows what they're looking at to determine your full expense and parts
required.
Do some research and check back...Bert
