Red face Help - Free wash and wipe with every start.

My washers and wipers go into intermittent mode each time I start my car. So I get a free screen wipe and spray each time - great in a convertible!!!

After discussing this problem on this board we though it may be the wiper switch. I have the switch apart now and yes its old and needs a clean, but I do not think it's the problem.

In my mind - if it was the switch then the wipers would continue to wipe in intermittent mode - is this thinking correct?

I am wondering if the intermittent relay is geting stuck when I turn the car off and therefore, when I start the car it causes one cycle and then returns to normal. - Is this logical - how would I test if it is the relay or the switch?

Any help would be much appreciated - the next step will be to remove the fuse until I sort it out, not a great step for a daily drive.

Can someone also confirm if the relay is under the fresh air blower in the luggage compartment on an 86 cab.
Thanks

David

According to Bentley's wiring diagram, the 86 does not have a relay, but (a no doubt expensive) intermittent wiper control module. I can definently hear a thunk like a relay closing when the wiping cycle is finished.

Has anyone seen this module, or know about its workings - it does not seem to be listed on Pelican as a part.

Thanks

My '86 coupe has an intermittent wiper "relay". Inside it is a lot more than a relay. Mine is located behind the speedometer. This wiper relay benefits from the same development program used for the DME relays - it seems designed to fail. Quite expensive. Replacing it fixed my wiper problems which was a failure to stop wiping.
