Looks great! Makes a big difference. Right after the first of the year, my 82 will be on the blocks for wheel polishing and new tires. I haven't decided on a full polish like yours or a spoke polish with a repaint.

Did you have a clear coat finish applied??

Question

What did you pay for your polishing?

I got a quote of $200/wheel locally in Atlanta. That is without any repairing o major work.

Seems crazy compared to what Jack paid.

I HAD THEM DONE AT AL REEDS SHOP
IN ANAHEIM CALIFORNIA. HE DID CENTER
CAPS, LUGS AND A FULL POLISH, $250 FOR
ALL 4 WHEELS, TOOK HIM ABOUT 3 DAYS.
I OPTED NOT TO HAVE THE CLEAR COAT PUT
ON.(ONLY AN ADDITIONAL $25 BUCKS, BUT
I'D RATHER BE ABLE TO POLISH THEM MYSELF,
HE ALSO SAID IF AT A LATER DATE YOU
WANTED THE CLEAR COAT, YOU COULD HAVE IT
DONE LATER)
I SHIPPED THEM FED EX GROUND FOR
$18.00 TOTAL. I BOXED THEM 2 TO A BOX.

Swimwear,

How did you package the rims as to not damage them? It only cost $18 total for all 4 rims...or was it $18/ box.

I've read a lot about this Al Reed guy, and have thought about contacting him. I live in Atlanta, and didn't know on a scale of 1-10, what type of job that you think he did?

ANY advice would be appreciated.

By the way, what was the pros and cons of clearcoating them...and would they clearcoat just the lips, or were you talking about coating the entire rim?

Thanks,

Lush Daddy

Swimwear,

Did you have your convertible top replaced or is that original? If so do you know who the manufacturer/installer was. The reason I ask is because I had mine replaced last month by Rich and Famous Auto Tops and noticed the new rear window was shaped differently from my original one. My original had a narrower cut of black canvas on the lower portion of the rear window on the left and right sides. I have an '84 Carrera with the original wide window, and it was replaced with a wide window which looks similar to yours, but I can't tell too well from your rear shot.

Talked to Al Reed Polishing today. Asked about clear coating. Mostly depends on your climate. Mine, in No. Cal is dry. Unless I take the car to the mountains and subject it to snow/roads salts, it doesn't appear a clear coat will be necessary. However, it is important to stay on top of polishing

My wheels will be going into Al shortly.

Out of all the quotes I got, his pricing is best and he has a quicker turn around time.

I got wheel boxes from a local goodyear.
I put one in a box and then taped
the heck out of two boxes to make
them one bigger box. It weight 17lbs.
total for the two rims. So total
I shipped two boxes. I used
Fed Ex GROUND. And the top is what came
on the car, it is new but I don't know
anything about it. If there's somewhere
you might think there's a label or something
that may give you a clue, just let me know.
