Default Back to a tires question

On my 1987 coupe, I have currently
front 205/55/16 and rears 245/45/16

I have searched the threads of the past and a lot of the recommended tires of this size seems to have been discontinued. Can anyone let me know what are the current tires that should be on the shortlist to be considered? There does not seem to be much!

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the info. I do not think they come in 245/45/16s. What are your tire sizes?

Actually I am looking into the Toyo T1Rs and was told they are recently discontinued (at least in the sizes I'm interested in). I have them on my 996 (17 inch).

I currently have Yokohamas on the 911 and they are also discontinued. The only ones I seem to see on the size are the Fuzion ZRi which my Indy says are not too good.

I run the Fuzions on my Turbo Look in your 245/40/16 size and they're not bad at all. Good grip for street driving. A bit noisy but nothing too bad. I won't hesitate to buy another pair, but then again I have no choice...

If they discontinue those, we're screwed!

Thanks for the encouragement. It looks like I'll be getting the Fuzions as well in the fall when the summer tires are on sale I hope.

The rears are 9" I believe. They are the Euromeister Fuchs replicas that the previous owner of the previous owner put on them.

I have thought of trying to get 8" Fuchs but they are pretty hard to come by locally and I wonder whether worth the extra cost.

9" wide then I retract and reverse....245's seem kind of narrow....I cannot accesss the calculator that I like anymore but someone will pop in with advice

stupid tire makers are going to be the reason older cars end up off the road, i wouldnt doubt if some enviornmental idiot convinced them to stop making them in an effort to rid the world of poluting old junk so we can all get a new Prius (which we all know is one of the worse cars enviornmentaly speaking) bastards!!

I run 15" tires on my '84 and decent choices are getting few and far between in my stock sizes. So, I feel your pain with the limited 245 choices. However, the vintage tire manufacturers are putting out some good alternatives for our old cars, so we're not dead in the water even when the mainstream mfg's are leaving us behind to concentrate on 18's, 19's & 20's. The flip side is that these vintage tires are pricey...

Try stepping up to 245/50/16 and you get a lot more choice at better prices ...example:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...50&diameter=16

...as was mentioned in an earlier post ...it's the 15s that are getting really limited (got 2 classics with OEM wheels in that size ...beginning to think I'll have to buy now and put a set away or there will be no choice in a couple of years but to go for larger wheels)

If I were to step up to 245/50/16 from 245/45/16, would this have any effect on the speedometer?

I'm also assuming there's no rubbing danger...correct?

I'm at stock ride height (my avatar pic was taken before it was changed).

That actually wouldn't be a bad thing. As it is, my speedo is about 5 mph optimistic, so this would bring things more in line!
