Default H4 Kit - Possible Options

Hi Folks, Moving forward on tweaking my '87. I've been reading about the H4 upgrade after a rather dim evening ride back from a friend's house yesterday. Anyway, I don't want to spend $500 for the euro H-4 upgrade, necessarily.

Will this setup work just as well in terms of extending night visibility?

Is there a major advantage to the euro setup that would be worth the ca$h? I quite like the look of my setup as-is. Anything else I need to do the upgrade that I didn't list here? Just trying to save a little cash on this upgrade and sort of wondering if there is anything comparable to the euro setup for less money. Thanks for your help.

Actually, as I read Pelican's description again I see that the parts list I have might only be for the '86....making the euro upgrade the only option?

Your 87 will have H5 lenses. If you want to change to H4, you need to redo your headlght plug. Once you do so, you can use either the Euro or the upgrade H4 on the sugar scoops. If you go with the sugar scoops, you will need the entire headlight assembly with mount and scoops. I am not sure if the H5 equipped cars have the headlight mounting tab at 6 o'clock.

Thanks for the reply. So, basically an H5 to H4 adapter plug?

I imagine that the H4 euro lenses (scoops?) account for much of the illumination efficiency as the wattages are the same essentially. Is that the case?

Cool, thanks for the link. I'll probably just go for the entire euro H4 assembly unless there's a cheaper/better alternative to get punchy headlights. I was really surprised how little "throw" the H5s have.
