Default R134a recharge pressure question for AC guys.

First off, beyond what I found on RL and PP during searches, I know nothing about recharging an AC system. Another p-car buddy of mine has the AC gauges and he used to recharge his old 944 a lot, so he came over today to try and recharge my 911.

Ambient temp = about 90 degrees.
Engine was running at 2000 rpm.
Engine cover closed. Just open about an inch for the hoses.
AC on full.

When we first hooked up the gauges, we got 10-15 psi Low side and around 150 psi High side. We put one can of R134a into the system and got 25/250 and the vent temp was about 70 degrees.

After connecting the second can, but before we released any freon, we were now seeing close to 350 on the High side.
This slowly stabilized down to 290, but we were reluctant to put any more freon into the system.

Does anyone know why the High side was so High all of a sudden?
The Low side still had a way to go before 45, and the temps were nowhere near even 60 degrees.

(System is completely stock with original porous AC hoses.)

Thanks.

Is the front condenser fan running? I wonder too if there might be some air in the system. Here is an AC forum:

You really need to evacuate the system before charging. Use a quality pump and new oil.

The fan was running. There probably was some air in the system since...

I was taking the quick and easy route and did not evacuate the system before attempting to do a recharge.

When we were done, I would say I now have a half decent dehumidifier, but not true AC. Maybe before my roadtrip to Savannah at the end of the month I'll pay a professional shop to charge it up right.

Thanks guys.
