Default SW Chip and Exhaust

Hi all,

I've had my car all of a month now and I'm starting to compile quite a mod list - gotta love the slippery slope.

I will eventually want to do a Steve Wong chip and sport exhaust. Can you guys point me in the right direction for exhaust? What all needs to be replaced from stock and what are some options?

many thanks!

I run an M&K bypass and exhaust. The sound, fit, and performance are great. I started with a Fabspeed bypass and pipe. The fit was TERRIBLE and left the exhaust pipe hanging 2" too low.

I recommend headers and a Flowmaster dual out muffler. The sound is AWESOME! Mucho power too....

JC, you'll probably get a lot of different answers to this one, but I second 1stgear with the M&K exhaust. I got their pre-muffler and 'Carrera' sport exhaust and I combined it with a map selectable chip from Russell Berry.

Fit and finish are great. Sound is awesome. Throttle response is was greatly improved.

In all seriousness, SW is the way to go for a chip, no matter what you do for exhaust. You can maximize the available octane you have available in your area. Many states have 93, and you may as well, but if you take a roadtrip to somewhere with less, you'll have to adjust with some addition of race fuel.

Before I twin-plugged, when I moved back to Calif, I had to mix fuel for a couple of years, as I didn't want to change my chip.

If someone wants to buy a Russell Berry multichip, I have one I'd sell.

Hey Paul -

Is this the M&K muffler you got?

JC,

Yep, that's the one. I combined it with their Pre-Muffler:

I think it sounds great. (Maybe GothingNC will offer his opinion since he was standing in the street as I drove away from his house yesterday.)

Hey JC, make sure to check out Fabspeed.com for different exhaust, intake and ECU options. We have videos and everything showing all possible sound and power options. If you want to keep the stock heat exchangers, I would go with our Cat-bypass Euro-pre Muffler and our Maxflo muffler for a nice sporty sound and power increase. PM me if you have any questions and I will offer you a nice member discount on the upgrades.
thanks,

I have the SW chip and Fabspeed dual out exaust on my 89 Coupe and the fit from Fabspeed was excellent.Although i went with the MK Euro pre muffler because the O2 bung captured both exaust banks ...

You won't be disapointed with the Fabspeed quality !

Cheers!

I too had a Fabspeed bypass way back when (2003-2004?), and had no problems. Sounded great and the butt dyno said it helped with more low end pull. But, I've heard differing results on fit over the years. I hope they are up to snuff these days.

I have no scientific measurements, but the difference in acceleration was immediately apparent, especially in the lower RPMs. No change in exhaust note.
I'm not sure a "genuine" Authority chip is all too special. Somewhat generic in nature and I doubt they've done any development in many years. It'll make some kind of a difference, I'm sure. Just be sure and run the gas it was designed for.

Euro premuffler and Sport dual out muffler and a Steve Wong Chip is the greatest bang for the buck - after that the money is more and the results are less.

Been there - done that - got the T-shirt

Thanks for the feedback guys and we are improving our products everyday as we grow. I can offer a nice package deal if anyone decides to go with Catbypass, Maxflo Muffler and 911 Chip on the car.
thanks

You want to offer me anything for the Fabspeed catbypass that's sitting in my attic because of the terrible fit on the car? I've got pictures if you need them.

I have the Fabspeed Euro Pre muf and dual out exhaust with the Steve Wong chip on my 88.
I did have issues with the fit (this was 6 years ago) but my mechanic worked it out. The sound is amazing and the car is down right peppy !
