Should I replace the clutch when the engine is out?

Purchased a 1987 911 Carrera in December at 85K miles (with no recent history)and am having a valve job done currently at 86K (needed new guides). The clutch is the one with the rubber center hub which to the mechanic looks to be in good shape and the disk is about half worn. For the record, I'm an average to enthusiastic driver but I have no experience with how long the current clutch would last.
The engine runs very strong and the cylinder walls and piston tops look great. The only problem was that it sucked oil down the guides like there was no tomorrow (a quart per 300 miles).
I'm looking for opinions, would this be a logical time to replace the clutch pressure plate and disk? Thanks for your input. / Jim

The rubber-centered clutches tend to fail with no warning. Their failure mode is typically the rubber tearing around the mating surface perimeter.
Mine felt fine until a spirited acceleration event where it tore the rubber.
If you are on a tight budget, then I would replace the disk, release bearing and do the release arm update. Try to get more years from the flywheel.
Here's what it looks like with a mild failure
