She certainly looks more sporty than her new counterpart! Best to you, Ed.

Ahh, but the new sibling is like flying on a magic carpet. They both have their positive aspects.

I have been looking at 993's....
Ed, if you had to choose just one would it be Ruby or Sapphire?

it depends… If I want to go out and really get my adrenaline flowing and exercise what driving skills I have: Ruby.

If I want to go somewhere, in comfort, and still have a lot of fun and possibly get my adrenaline flowing: Sapphire.

They both have pros and cons. Sorry I couldn't answer any more concisely!

Right that you can't. As I can't with my two 993s that pretty much occupy opposite ends of the spectrum.

But as I sit at the shop today considering that it looks like the '73 shell will FINALLY get reassembled (have a '74 donor from which most all of the stock running gear will come from to make a domesticated 3.2L street wannabe RS), if they quit making them in the late '70s like they always threatened.........a torsion bar chassis would still give any of today's cars with a similar power/weight ratio a hard time.

Ed,
My wife is warming up to the idea of a second 911 (once we get back to the states), but keeps bringing up the storage issue. Which cars get the garage space, based on the picture I assume you only have a two car garage.
thanks,

No, it's a 3 car (double deep one side) garage, the 3 Frauleins stay inside, the truck lives in the driveway or the airport parking lot.

Thanks. As I read the responses to this I couldn't help but think how different they would have been if you had posted this on the 993 board.

Ed:

This may have been asked before but is the paint on Ruby original or have you repainted. I've done all the mechanical "improvements" on my SC and am really toying with a complete as in remove the glass and rubber as well as front fenders repaint. Car looks great at ten feet but closer you can see various partial repaints. Not really interested in a concours car as I track it but would love to preserve this fantastic stress reliever. Yes, as much as I like blue it woulds stay original color.

So back to the question is "Ruby" paint original ... I believe the color is Jack

She was a "paint to sample" order. The reason I call her Ruby is 'cuz the '64 Ruby Red looks pretty close in person. I did have her re-sprayed with a spectrometer(?) color match, glass out/fenders off, back in 12/02. It was a pretty decent quality paint job, and still looks pretty damned good, although you can certainly tell she's been driven.

I used a guy in DFW who did a lot of hot rods and muscle cars-this was his first Porsche. He said his estimate on the next one would go up $3-4k! I actually voluntarily paid him more than his estimate, as I knew he was in a bit low.

Ed:

Thanks, you answered my question "Ruby" is a looker and a goer
I will never give up my SC until I can't drive and then my son gets it. There are newer "P" cars in the garage but the SC makes my smile even bigger.

Driving a Porsche in Germany is pretty cool. I cannot believe I live 15 minutes from Hockenheimring and I have not driven it yet!

Got to drive it in the late 70's as the Germany Region PCA had some events on the track. Was great
