911 TONS! of white smoke from exhaust
Be gentle, I'm new here and not a mechanic. I searched 'smoke' but did not find a similar post.
'86, 911, 3.2, manual, 70K miles. About one drop per 2 weeks on garage floor. Daily driver. Had it checked by a Porsche mechanic before buying at Christmas.
Running just fine.
Dipstick was dry (it's very short) so added 2 quarts to get it between the lines when idling, per inst manual.
A few minutes to warm up in driveway, stopped about one block away to chat with neighbor, (another 5 minute idle).
When I pulled away, I noticed white smoke in the rear view mirror. Went a block and when I accelerated from that stop sign, I filled the entire neighborhood with white smoke! Hard to look cool in an awesome ride while fogging the neighbors! No more mosquitoes here!
Pulled back into my garage and the smoke is still drifting out the exhaust pipe.
Let it cool, next day re-checked oil level during idle. Level OK, but still spewing burnt smelling smoke. (the neighbor came out to see if a house was burning!)
If this means anything, this was the first day I tried the AC, but did not run the engine enough to feel any cooling as I tried to coast back to my house.
Help!

Drifting
classic overfill - my guess is you checked the oil originally before it got to operating range. The oil in the tank expands ALOT!
drive it - it will take some time to clear all the oil out of the system 0 but it will burn off.

Check the oil at min oil temp of 180F. Then, on level ground with engine idling for at least 1 min, check oil with the dipstick. You want the oil level to be at the half way point. I think you are probably a quart too high, which will destroy the cat and compromise your oil seals. Too high and you can do engine damage.

Thanks for the help! Mostly relief that I probably did not destroy the engine (yet).
Sure hope g-50cab is right!
Took Ed's advice and (embarrassingly) re-read the manual - It says "1. Oil temperature indicator at the end of the white field..." the white field has two ends - a top and a bottom. Silly me. I assumed the cooler bottom was the instruction because it talks about min and max on the stick due to temperature. I DID check the oil pressure needle first.
Will try the drain or suction to reduce the volume. (Durn! just wasted $8.95!!)

Lovin the car!
