Post chrome window trim

I am looking at purchasing a 76 911 and it has chrome window trim. Is it possible to change that to black window trim?

thanks,
Jeff

I think most things are possible given enough money, but run a search on "chrome and pitting" or something. there was a post a while back concerning "de-chroming" wheels, and the consensus was that the chrome bonds to the metal, and not only pits it beyond repair, but weakens the structure. With things like Hershey coming up, you might be better off trying to find a set of black trim for the car, and just selling yours.

Or you might want to keep it -- It'll help the resale to have original parts, and you might find that you like it.

I would be interested in buying it if you are selling.

You can switch to black trim with some time and effort, however if the crome is in good shape I would stick with it.

Turns out it does have black window trim, the paint has just peeled off and it looks shiny in the pictures. Hopefully I can pick this car up this weekend. $6000 bucks for a running 76 911S with power sunroof, power windows.

I am going to use Wurth trim paint over the chrome.
I did a test area several months ago and it looks great and has held up well. Use lacquer thinner over it to remove grease, ole wax etc.

I painted the window trim on my '79 911SC with black primer as the original paint had faded. Very nice results and much cheaper than replacing with new molding and/or window frame.

Jeff, make sure you do/verify the standard 2.7 upgrades and preventive measures -- Head studs, heater box, tensioners, etc. Hope it goes well, enjoy the car.
