Sorry to say, but the '74 is a special car. If it has the factory duck, been restored and is a Carrera, THEN that Is the going price on those cars. That one appears to be a garden variety 911, but if it's a '74, then it could be the last year without a U.S. variant, which would make it a de-facto ROW car.

I'm not buying it, looks like a nice car and the 74-77 are losing thier stigma but that seems very high.

To add to the confusion, there is a '74 S as well. Obviously the Carrera is the one to get, but the early 911 registry will have to expand to accomodate these cars, IMO. They are a logical alternative to the longhoods (talking '74 only).

I agree, it is very hard to believe someone paid that kind of money for a very nice but pretty standard 74 Targa.

I thought EXACTLY the same thing until I looked into it. My friend paid a very modest $40K for a 74 Carrera, new paint w rebuilt engine by a respected So Cal shop. I think mid-30s Is not out of the question.

Indeed, it seems interesting that 74-77 911s are loosing their stigma. Other than a 74 Euro with the 2.7RS engine, I'd pass and seek out other models. In that era, a 75 homologation 930 would be neat.

Everyone has hated the 74-77 911 forever, bad head studs blah, blah, blah. In reality they are good cars and any engines issues have mostly been fixed at this point. There is not a lot of difference between the early cars and the 74-77 models. The only difference between a US 74-77 911S and Carrera is the rear fenders and a spoiler but folks will pay a substanial premium for a Carrera. The cats out of the bag on the 75 turbo's been very expensive for a long time. Seem's like the seller of the $32K targa has an axe to grind so I am not buying the sales price.

74 is one of the best kept secrets in the 911 world IMO. All the 2.7 cars are cool and affordable, at least for now. A well built 2.7 is a blast to drive, they can be VERY quick.

Good for him! Every 911 is a 'collectible", I just sold my 89 Targa to myself for $100,000!
