Default Looking at this car to purchase - Pics!

Hi all,

I'm looking at this car as a possible candidate:

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...ype=p&make=POR

I'm currently playing phone tag with the owner. I have lot's of questions about the car and may arrange a meeting to see/drive it if I continue to pursue...

My questions:

1. The color - the pics you see are not that great, but I'm curious as to the exact 'Porsche' color of the exterior. Also, the seller notes the interior is 'brown'. Not too sure I would actually like that but of course it's hard to say without actually seeing. Anyone have links/pics of this combination?

2. Rear Tail - My ultimate goal is a G50 3.2 coupe with around 100K miles preferably with a tail. This fits all but the tail. I've found a few on ebay but was wondering if there is a good source for these parts? Is anyone making after market tails for these cars?

thanks!

JC

boy, this guy went "ALL OUT" on that ad....4 pictures of the lowest setting possible on the camera with that huge description....

it might be a great car, but my initial thought is the owner is not that enthusiastic about the car. Get a really good PPI

as for color, I didnt want red, I didnt like the grey carpet. I bought the right car (for me), I now accept the color and actually like it

dont get aftermarket tail . if you can score a facory Porsche one and paint to match . In fact guys sell them here time to time
the coulur code should be on a placard on the door frame at the front of the drivrs door . have the owner read you the code .

I think that is Cooper Brown Met. and I actually like it. I think it would be a nice combo and find a tail for it shouldn't be that hard if you look around. I would get an factory tail as lots of people are selling them off their track cars to upgrade to an RS wing or something.

I have the brown interior in my car. Its a chocolate brown color (getting close to that of a Hershey bar). I did not want a black interior and I really like the brown, and it works wonderfully with my beige exterior. Also, my interior is upgraded a bit so that the door pockets and carpet are also beige so there is some nice contrast in the interior.

As for the exterior color - quite common and have seen lots on eBay in this color. NOw for the name - my age and failing memory causes me to not remember. But one faded memory recalls some type of bronze I thought.

Thanks all - after a bit of research I believe it is Nougat Brown. Still waiting on confirmation and better pics from the seller. I'll keep you guys posted.

Cassis Red...maybe? The pics are so crappy it's hard to tell.

Anyway, good luck in your search.

I'm going to guess "Nougat Brown Met.", code 40B. Maybe "Ceramic/Caramel Beige, non met." , code 499. Might not be original color.
My guess is that the seller is not a "car guy". If not, there is, at least, $2K worth of little stuff which you will not be able to stand that you will find as you live with the car.

yeah - it's either Cassis Red or Nougat Brown... I think. Can't wait to talk to the owner about specifics.

vracer, you're absolutely correct regarding the slippery slope. I know it all to well from my (sold) 993. If the price is right though and PPI is clean I'm all over it. We'll see.

Hi all - I'm back...

Still considering this car - the seller did upload a few more pics to the autotrader ad, but they are too very pixelated. He did email the higher res images to me so at least I have a bit of an idea about the condition of the car. (attaching to this thread) These pics are not great - or at least they are not near the quality or quantity I would post if I were selling...

In talking with the seller it appears the car is quite clean even though he is not the most 'car savvy' guy. He's the 4th owner. He's had it since '96 and only put 15K on the clock. I pulled a CarFax and it's clean.

The previous owner is a Porsche Mechanic (or so I'm told). Waiting to hear from him. I'm headed to see the car on Friday. It's about an 1.5hrs away.

I'll have a PPI done if the car is indeed clean once I see it in person. The price is definitely right (I think). We've tentatively agreed on $15K for the car provided it's in as good of shape as advertised.

In any case, I'd love to hear some chatter/thoughts about this possible purchase.

--I have to say that I was not at all interested in this color (Nougat Brown) until I started searching for some nice images... Now I'm really digging the color. I think it's just classic.

I'm am definitely not an expert, but will mention a few things I see...Is the front hood open in the first picture? Even if it is open, it still looks crooked (higher on the driver side). Also, I'm not sure about the stance of the car. Looks like it's sitting pretty low in the back. Engine looks clean, but obviously needs new spark plug wires. I assume it will prob. need other general maintenance.

I like the color combo!

Good luck with everything!
