Brake reservoir problem .. urgent replacement?

Have the 1987 911 coupe and in the front trunk, it looks like some fluid container with a hose coming out of the top. What is this? I found that someone had tried to glue the hose on (the plastic tip is broken), so the hole is plugged and the hose is just sitting there.
Any help is welcome..

Thanks, I did a quick search and with my limited knowledge have this question...
What does the little hose at the top do? Is it a "breather"? Where do it connect to? Should I be concern?

Hot glued?
Brake fluid is corrosive, it'll eat paint and is no fun to get all over. If it's a leaky reservoir (cracked, leaking) totally agreed, replace it. It could also be a leaky cap. I'd check that as well. As to the hose, they may have attempted to glue it from the hose swelling and not staying on, if it's supple and soft, lob off the swollen tip and put it back on the outlet for the hose.

I recall an evening in lower Manhattan many years ago while driving my Spitfire that my left foot felt awfully wet. When I tried to pull over to investigate, my brake pedal went to the floor. Nursed it back to Brooklyn using engine braking. I'm not sure if your master cylinder is compromised nor am I familiar with Porsche braking systems, I just wanted to offer that master cylinder failure can be bad.

That is just a vent/overflow hose ... does not compromise master cylinder performance at all,although it is supposed to run down somewhere between the fender and firewall so that your brake fluid doesn't spill out into your trunk area !
I would strongly suggest replacing the reservoir as you certainly don't want the brake fluid sloshing out if the little nipple brakes off with the hose ...

Thanks for the info. It looks like the hole is plugged up with the glue, will this wreak anything or create too much pressure inside? I will look to see if there is a hole or not later. Can I reattach the hose and seal it with something like silicon or glue?
If not too serious, then will wait till next service trip to the Indy to see what the damage will be. If I change this reservior I guess I would need to bleed the brake lines and change the brake fluids. Should I change the brake lines or not really needed (just thinking or the age and I don't know when the previous owner changed it). Hopefully not too much $$

I screwed in a brass fitting (from lowes or Home Depot) and reattached the hose - It's not high pressure or anything. Mine survived that way for years including many many brake bleeding sessions

Certainly get a new resevoir and reattach the hose. I would do it sooner verses later. Ask your favorite shop their advice. If you were my customer, I would sell you the part at a fair price and install it at no extra charge to a brake flush. This is a component in a safety system and should be addressed asap.

Will do as soon as I can drive the car to my mechanic.
Hitting some time hurdles in getting Hagerty to insure it. Awaiting the appraisal and insurance approval.
