Post stripped spark plug threads

I had a spark plug back out on me not long after I bought my '88 Carrera. At first I thought whoever changed the plugs last just forgot to torque it down. I put it back in and I was able to thread it back in. I just changed the plugs and I found that indeed the plug hole is stripped with only a couple threads left. I obviously need to helicoil the hole. Does anyone have any experience with this? Can it be done with the engine in and the valve covers removed. The hole in question is the #6 so its not easy to get to. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello

UPS the threads allready have helicoilinserts from the factory.

If you try to use a tool to repair them you will have to remove the head.

Not sure if you have a problem, better check it with a local Porsche mechanic.

Hello:
I believe by the mid 80's, maybe even earlier..Porsche had stopped helicoiling the spark plug threads due to ( they say) incorrect heat transfer from the head to the plug. My take is that is was simply cheaper to build 'em that way.
