Exclamation Another 1st 911

I have been following the forum closely for some time now collecting any tiny bit of information that would help me to buy my first 911. I must admit this is one of the best forums on the net and also most confusing. So following the advise "buy the latest model your money can" and keeping in mind to spare another 2-3K for repairs, I pretty much decided to go for a 83 Euro 911SC cabriolet max at $17.5K until I have seen the shape and the documentation of the cars available on the market and; whew, they were well used and abused...

Today, I came across an 85 3.2 coupe from the first owner in perfect condition, with only 25Kmiles, sold by a Porsche dealer with 1 year warranty at $23K and I am puzzled...

Living in Paris, France <img src="graemlins/wave.gif" border="0" alt="[byebye]" /> I would like to get:
1. your opinion on what my best bet should be,
2. your opinions on garage queens,
3. to know if a member of this forum is living near me and is willing to help me do the purchase, or even sell me one...

Thank you,

turk911

I bought a 1987 Targa with 24,000 miles on it 1.5 years ago and have 28,000 miles on it now. No problems of significance so far. I think as long as it has had regular use of 2,000 miles a year or so, as well as regular maintenance, it should be a very solid car.

Nothing should be wrong with any of the metal pieces if they've had a little use, but the electrical system may have oxidized a bit. The leather should be first class if it has been cared for, as well as the paint, carpet and trim.

On the other hand, the rubber (vacuum lines, gaskets, etc.) will have aged just about as much as a high mileage example, and can probably be counted on to leak, crack, etc. and cause niggling little problems, so it will not be as reliable/perfect as a new car unless and until they are all replaced. This is time consuming though not too difficult or expensive. Tires should be checked for cracking and replaced accordingly.

As for garage queens: I love mine!

Thanks Rick for the comment.

I had some private comments as well suggesting me to reach a club first. Repeating the same question; but does anyone know how I can get in touch with a local Porsche club around Paris, France?

Thanks,
