Help with a VIN#
I managed to get my hands on a 1980 911 slantnose. The body in mint with not a speck of rust on it. It has been sitting forever and the interior is a mess. The problem is I have no idea what exactly it is that I have.
The registrations say 1980
It is a slantnose.
The rear lid says Carrera (but who knows)
I called a local dealer and he couldn't help me.
Here is the vin# - 91A0140553
Can any of you guru's tell me anything more about the car? I want to start searching for and ordering parts but I want to make sure I am buying the right stuff.
Thanks for any help you can provide,

91A0140553:
"91" = vehicle type (911)
"A" = 1980
"0" = manufacturing plant
"1" = type supplement (1 = 911)
"4" = engine version; 911 - 3.0 USA
"0553" = consecutive serial number
Is the car a slantnose wide body, or narrow body? It will definitely not be a factory build in either case, and if it's a wide body by VIN it did not start life as a Turbo.
The car is probably nothing more than an '80 SC with some different body panels.

Thanks Pete,
Exactly what I was looking for.
It is a widebody, and it's not a turbo. It is all metal and a convertible.
I had my doubts it was a factory build, but it still has the look I like and I can't wait to get it back on the road.
It is my first and I do have lots to learn...
I read somewhere that if it has round lights there is a chance it was a factory build, square means no chance... any truth to that?
lastly, where can I get a copy of your book? Looks like I could learn a bit from it,
Thanks again,

Double-trouble, the car probably started life as a Targa. Unfortunately the 1980 Targa did not yet get the chassis stiffening technology that Porsche did to prepare for the '83 Cabriolets (1981 was the first year for Targas with stiffer chassis construction).

All steel is a big plus.

Never heard of that, but in this case it's moot.
