Question Rust Repair

Hello,

While I was breeding my brakes I noticed that I am beginning to get some surface rust around the front Torsion Bar attachment points. My plan is to lossen the bolts at this point to allow the bar to drop, Rust Mort the rust and coat with POR-15. My question, will this simple plan work or will I need to remove the A arm to get to that spot?

Thanks in advance.

You can take the bolts all the way out, the torsion bars will only drop an inch or so, even with the car on jack stands.

I think I read somewhere that doing this could affect your alignment.

Maybe somneone more technical could comment.

Gee, Jim, I may not be the most technical guy on this board, but I have pulled the engine and removed and welded in a front suspension pan. I think what you are thinking about is a possible change in alignment when replacing the pan due to the front torsion bar holes shifting or not being in the same place on the new pan. However, Harry is not replacing his pan, therefore, there should be no change in alignment. If only I had more stars, perhaps I would get the respect I truly deserve

Thanks for the replies.

I am thinking that the 1 inch or so would be sufficient to get in there, kill the rust, and recoat. I figured I would check the alignment afterwards anyway since it seems whenever you mess with suspension components, some movement is inevitable.
