I really like the 964 C2 and it is on my bucket list - I would have taken it had I not found the 86' I am loving the 86 though. If I get to choose next time I will end up in the 67' range...for the reasons stated above, simple/light. For now I am keeping the 86' with NO PLANS to sell her. Its a good balance of years and the 915 is a wonderful experience, ask Amar
Ed, last year when I was in spring break, I drooled all over a 964 that was parked in my hotel. That is when I decided to get into the world of air-cooled Porsches. But the more research and reading I did the next few weeks, the more I was allured to the aura of the 3.2 (over the 993 and 964) To the OP please check this thread (I have posted my top 10 reasons to go for the 3.2 on post # 19)

I have several reasons why I love the 915 gearbox but we want get into that now. In fact I almost did not buy a 3.2 ... then drove Ivangene's (Ed) car ... rest is history. If you want 90 % of the fun of the pre-impact bumper 911s without some of the aggravation involved in maintaining the earlier cars then the SC/3.2 is your ticket to long term fun. Of the two, the SC is very very good and the 3.2 slightly better. If it is not a daily driver (several DD their 3.2 without any issues) then that is one more strong reason to go for the 3.2 over the 964.

On a final note, 3.2 is the car that possesses most of the characteristics that established the legend in the first place. It is very dependable, fast and highly rewarding to own, maintain and drive. By the way, please don't be fooled by my post count. I am still a relative newbie when it comes to Porsches. So don't take my advice to seriously. Just drive, read and view several pictures of all air-cooled cars (like I did)...you will know which one is right for you.

See Amar has a way with words.....

His story is near to me heart because I was semi-involved in his demise

I just went from a Mk2 996 to a 80' SC. In my opinion, the 996 just became a "normal car" to me and did not feel that special. The SC and 3.2 cars feel much more involved and give me that "special" feeling every time I get behind the wheel. Not sure about the 964 as I have never driven one, but I would think that with each evolution the cars became more refined/less involved.

I own both an 89 3.2 carrera and a 95 993. Bought the 993 to drive to work on a more frequent basis since it has air bags and working air conditioning. Driving the 993 is like driving a great sports car, driving the 3.2 is like driving a great and very fast go cart. No comparison. The 993 cannot compare for immersion in the driving experience.

3.2 liter for me as well. As I work for a Porsche store, the new cars are faster and can be driven daily the 3.2 liter cars I think can give off a quality that is missing from today's cars
