Post A/C Electrical Help????

I have an under-dash A/C system in my 911SC, and am not happy with the air volume coming from the system. Also, the fan motor seems to speed up and slow down as I turn corners, which leads me to believe the motor is going bad.

Is it possible to get a new motor for the under-dash A/C systems? I mean, are most of them off the shelf type of motors?

I've contacted the manufacturer of the system several times with no response. They're in Italy, so I'm a little disadvantaged.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Hi Roland,

Yep, it's by Diavia.......Seems nobody has ever heard of it in my neck of the woods.

I just haven't been able to get a response from them, as I'd also like to know if they still make this unit new.

I would take a look at the motor and see if it has any manufactures #'s on it. Then try grainger or look under electric motors in the yellow pages you might be able to cross it over or find a suitable sub.
Also motors "generaly" follow standards on shape mounting etc and hp/kw.
Good luck

Hello

I know Diavia nad the main problem is that it is made in italian. There are several stages/versions around. Some use the original Porsche/Behr condesator unit and copied most other componetns or redisigned them for easier installation in the aftermarked.

Ther support is nearly nill. I have a 1997 produced Diavia AC unit in my Golf. The previous owner let it install in 2000 and in 2001 when i owned the car the waranty runed out. Two months later the blower quit working.
Diavia didn´t knew what type was in the kit and even if they knew they didn´t had them anyway

They send a wire shematic for a other car ( I have a 91 and the shown wire loom is pre 89 versions and most wire colors from the Diavia kit didn´t match ).

The good thing on the system is the VW/Zyxxel Rotary vane compressor yet Diavia never delivered that unit with the VW kits.

Finally i removed the fanmotor and visitet a local electric motor shop to have it fixed ( and slight improved ) for a bargain compared to the unit Diavia would have sold as retrofit replacment.

Now one resistor for the power stage is blown up and Diavia send a other not fiting unit .....

Next weeks when I have time i will redisgn the complete system to my standards. Wirelooms are ready and more intetratet then the original hang on stuff plus i still think about full climate control

Now this didn´t help you direkt but the thing is that there is always a way to do something but you need time an/or money and most people don´t have the will for that.

The mid 70-80-s Diavia seemed to use mostly italian made products ( nowwerdays taiwan is cheaper ) and a good AC shop who handles italian cars and exotics should know by the look what is fitable. The diavia housing is easy to modify but sometimes you need have opend the AC pressure system.

Thanks everyone!

I plan on pulling it apart to see what's in there. I'm hoping it's an off-the-shelf evaporator and motor, but as you said, it does look like another blower system could be fabricated and mounted to the back of the under-dash air distribution section.

RBC--I'd bet over 90% OF ELECTRIC motor problems on small devices and accessories can be repaired by simply oiling the bearings and/or replacing the brushes. IF brushes are required, check out the OLDEST hardware stores in the area first. Many of them have selections remaining that they used to stock. I have found that buying a slightly larger brush that might be available and then sizing it by rubbing it on a flat file will get you a set of hard to find brushes not available anymore. VERY FEW motors fail because of open coils. Occasionally a commutator will require cleaning but generally motors just require the care mentioned above. <img src="graemlins/wave.gif" border="0" alt="[byebye]" />
