Default FS track ready 82 targa BLK/BLK SSI, Bilstein, Tarett, etc

SOLD
Location: Denver, CO

CHECK EBAY - STARTING $9,000 no further reserve.

Overall: A fast, quick, stiff, loud SC(look on youtube for other 911s running SSIs and M&K 2 in 2 out). Turns 2:11s at High Plains Raceway. I used the car as my nice weather driver and instructor car. I'm a NASA instructor. This car can go one of three ways, more stripped out to be a better track car. Or, add back some comforts and respray the car for a dominant canyon carver. Or leave as is and enjoy. Owned for the last five years by PCA enthusiasts.

Suspension: Well setup with the Tarret sways, decambered ball joints, 22/28 torsion bars and Bilstein HDs in the rear and green Bilsteins up front. Polybronze and Neatrix bushings. Cambermeister and Targa braces. Aligned less than five months ago.

Engine: Previous owner built the car for the DE and blew the original engine. A healthy 1980 3.0 liter was installed by Dart Auto in 2007. Less than 7% leakdown on the motor at the time(no note of miles on the motor). Runs great, see below for more details. Semi solid mounts. Low pressure oil warning light. Dual thermostatic oil coolers up front with stainless lines. Car runs well and does not overheat even on 95 degree track days. When I bought the car in 2/10 I had new valve cover gaskets put on and they checked for broken head studs and found none. Sounds amazing with the exhaust, ear plugs recco'd for drives over an hour. Pop off valve and chain tensioners done.

Gearbox: Shifts fine in all gears. Second is a little stiff until warm, but no graunch. Semi solid mounts. New clutch cable. Clutch has 35k miles on it and bites great.

Brakes: Stock discs all around in fine shape. Stainless brake lines. No warpage or cracks. Rear pads are fine. NEEDS new front pads. I was going to put in some street pads but figure the new owner might be more track oriented.

Body: No rust. The ducktail has been rattle canned and could use to be fitted, grill is nice though. Lots of road rash. Paint has a nice shine, but look at the pics. It is not embarrassing at all, just shows its 30 years. Bumpers and bellows are good shape. Smile is OK. Front spoiler is OK. Side trim and window rubber are good. No leaks from windshield or rear window.

Wheels: Upgraded 7 and 8 inch Fuchs. Really nice shape. No deep pitting or gouges. Painted my favorite Ford engine blue.

Targa Top: Tight, rebuilt in 2003.

Interior: Complete AC delete. Complete stereo and wiring delete with custom faux radio blanking plate. Complete alarm and wiring delete. Seats are decent, no rips. The carpet is faded. I use weathertech mats for daily use and remove them at the track, so some might think it needs mats. An RS type carpet set would fit the car nicely. When I removed the ginormous stereo I made new doorpanels and decklid panels and covered in a retro-ish fabric. Couple of small areas on decklid where the fabric was not glued down perfectly - no one notices but me. A new dash was installed about 7 years ago and looks great. White face gauges and billet items from two owners ago.

Heater: Works. One hose is missing to connect blower to passenger side but does not seem to affect the level of heat in the car. It works really well.

Electrical: H4 headlights. However, the high beams don't work when ON, only when flashed. Low beams work fine. My shop, Storz, says it NEEDS a new headlight switch, everything else is fine. Ignition switch does that cute 911 thing of not engaging the starter everytime. You just turn off and then back on. Has not gotten better or worse in my year of ownership. Has a battery cut off switch at the terminal. I use it everyday as my theft deterrent.

Tires - Dunlop Direzzas with 5k on them and wearing evenly. At least 10k miles left in them if street driven.

Owner: I write for a few P-car magazines and wrote the novel Hunt for 901. I say this not to brag, but because I don't want to ruin my reputation by misrepresenting this car.

Price: $11,500 for a quick sale that will make a new owner feel like he/she got a good deal. I might trade partially for an 05-06 Cayenne with tow package and in any color other than silver. I would prefer a v6 but would consider v8.

Reason for Sale: Too many cars. I am selling this and my Grand Wagoneer to get a Cayenne, so trading 2 old cars for one newer one. A 944 SPEC racer and 62 Jag MK2 and a son under 2 years old take all my time. I guess I am getting soft.

Reliability: Starts even when 0 degrees out. Would drive anywhere. Even cross-country.
