Post Batteries? Charging them and buying new ones??

Any advice on this subject. We just bought a 78 SC and the battery was down.Would jump start. But went out a bought a Schumacher modelSE-2004 10amp fully automatic Charger. It charged up after about 7 hrs. Thats what was stated in the info on the unit. Did well all day.But someone didn't close the passenger door all the way and the next day it was down and wouldn't turn over.
So would you just put it back on Charge or purchase a new battery. And if so, any recommendations? We live out in a small town, with a Walmart, Auto Zone, Car Quest, and a Napa store.
This is my wife's first sports car, and I want her to have a positive experience with it. Thanks.

give it another charge....batteries normally last at least 5 years, so worth checking how old it is. They don't like being left discharged for very long. Assume you checked electrolyte level in cells, this can drop off if left on charge too long. New battery is the ultimate peace of mind cure for wife's car !

First, I'd pull the caps on it (even if it says non-fillable, however, there are some that really aren't refillable, typically with solid tops that obviously won't come off), there are probably two, one for each set of 3 cells, and check the acid/water level. If low, add distilled water, recharge, and see if that does it. If it won't hold a charge, then it's new battery time.

On my 81SC, I installed an Autozone Duralast battery (they have the listing for the 911SC). It fit properly, with the webs so the Porsche battery hold down would still work. They have like a 7 year warranty with a 2 year free replacement period. Around $60. Rated well in Consumers Reports test a few years back. As with any new battery purchase, look at the code on the battery to ensure you're getting a recently made one. At our Autozone, when I got my battery, the dates were all very recent.
