Now there is a title to stir ones soul and or gut. The time has arrived to overhaul the engine on my '83 SC rather enhanced to resemble an RS. Not just to the eye . While the engine work is already decided ( core is a Euro SC WOW) I am considering a re-paint at the same time. Getting ready for Parade 2012 ... and because I love the car. The hood and the engine lid have been recently painted and have the stripes under clear coat. The fenders, doors and yes the top have evidence of age and some track rash hastily repainted. So do I have the glass removed and those areas repainted in the original Gran Prix white OR do I have the entire car broken down and repainted in a blue that my wife and I really like. We plan to keep the car and I have told my 42 year old son he gets it some day. Experts, lovers of the great air cooled and purists chime in.

As much as I like the various blue hues, I tend to agree that the correct move is to keep it white. When re done I will make the side "Brumos" style stripes a little bolder. However it is repainted I will have the front fenders broken and the windows pulled ( still original front windshield with moderate track etching). Interior is all new "RS" style and the seats are Recaro Pole Position. I do like this car and it is quick on the track. It is the aging driver that is getting slower.

I say - do what you want - it's your car.
I personally love the blue colors. It's not like it's collectable or anything. Just do it right if you do paint it.
On the other hand - white cars are a great base for anything - you could get the car stickered up (or professionally wrapped) that would change the look (and could be reversible)

Thanks guys, I have returned to reality and it will stay white with the Brumos stripes. Bottom line, I do like blue but white is far easier to touch up when "track rash" occurs.

Can't go wrong with white!
Probably the favorite driveline combo I had in my '79 way back when was a 3.0 Euro large port CIS engine with 964 cams and an early exhaust, mated to a 7:31 final drive (with cruiser 5th gear) transaxle.
