Default Who says a tail on a Targa don't look good? Pictures!

My friends, I recently had moment of weakness: I almost sold my 911. I was contemplating buying a 997. I test drove a couple but soon realized although the 997 is an awesome driving machine... it ain't no 911. Each time I wrapped up a test drive of the 997, I couldn't wait to jump back into my 911 and I felt so much more engaged with the car. So I decided to keep it. But... I also decided to make a couple of changes... add a couple of additions to make my Targa look the way I always intended it to look.

So, I added a chin spoiler, a Tea Tray and widen the wheels in the back.

I took the p-car to the Buttonwillow race track yesterday and the car felt awesome. The upgrades are a huge improvement. The extra cooling the tail provides is significant. The rear felt much more stable and the car felt smoother overall. Next year I'm upgrading the suspension and sway bars... but that will be another story.

Here are some pictures. Mind you the car isn't clean. The track was pretty dusty. I'll add some pictures of me on track later this week.

Enjoy,

Marlon

Great pics! You're right about the extra cooling.

Beautiful shots Marlon. The second one is my favorite. My all you need is just a little petroleum jelly on your Fuchs and you will be all set

I think it is all taste. I used to have a Carrera tail on Ruby, and it looked a bit "much"-so I went to the duck. You've got a tea tray, different color and dark trim, so the results do look different.

Rusnak: I wonder how many degrees it makes a difference. But it seems like 10 to 15 degrees.

WOOt: thank you for the kind words. I was going to have the car waxed and cleaned inside for a photo shoot, but I preferred shooting pictures of the car at the track.

Ed: I agree, with Targa's it really depends on the color and trim and what kind of tail. But ducktails work with all Targa's. Tails IMO only work well with dark colors and trims.

I like the tail on a targa, but then again I could be considered biased...

Very nice looking cars on this thread. Ed's nickname on his 84 is great.

Marlon, nice job on the reno. I put a chin spoiler as well and in the process of getting the turbo tail ready as well. I don't have pics, the car is in the shop and I haven't had time. What specifically did you do to your wheels? different rims? spacers?

2specs: I put 1" spacers on with longer studs. It fills out the fenders perfectly on mine, with no rubbing.

Thanks. I currently have 16's x 7 & 6. I'm most likely going with wider rear wheel's but not sure yet.

I was going to put 9x16's in the back, but most of the width is on the inside. They only fill out the outside about 22mm. So I decided to go with spacers and get the full 25 mm on the outside for about $240 by getting 1" spacers, instead of the expensive 9x16's and new shoes.

89slant: a B&W Targa is beautiful. Never realized it until I saw your ride.

I think color can make a big difference and your black on black looks great!
My rear end has been bare for so long I can't see it any other way.
