Pistol Pete Maravich's 911
Oh how I wish I had the duckets to buy this. My personal idol. I lived down the street from him while he was at LSU and now live a couple miles from his kids.

Yes, in the description says that Pistol had it repainted before he died. I wonder if this is the Porsche he claims to have pseudo-attempted suicide in going across the Causeway bridge at 150mph?
ETA, the more I think about it this is probably that car since he played for the New Orleans Jazz between 1974 and 1979.

Many of the pro ballplayers of that era had 911s. Dennis Awtrey's '73 RS made it into my shop in Phoenix a few times in the '80s after he retired. Always amazed how the tall guys folded themselves into the cars.
And when I was a kid, Reggie Jackson's Mexico Blue (?) '74 Carrera (License: 74 MVP) was seen around town all the time.

I remember seeing Alonzo Morning driving around Miami in his 993 Cab and wondering how he fit being 6'10". Maybe he took out the front seat and sat in the back.

Not too long ago, a dealer in Pennsylvania sold a red 930 he claimed belonged to Orel Hershiser of the Dodgers.
Trivia item: he went on to become a pro poker player.

I guess the Cabby's were of choice for better Head room. I remember when Bobby Phills was killed in his 1997 993 Cab.

My favorite was when we serviced Laffit Pincay's 928. He was kinda quiet, almost reserved, and had to stand on his tip-toes at my counter when he wrote the check to pay for the work we did!

Pete let a water pumper into his shop?!?!?!?!
On the local front, one of Jason Kidd's handlers when he'd just turned pro arranged for him to buy a slope nose cab conversion I used to work on. And Chris Gatling when he played for the Warriors (to ratchet this down to to miscellaneous players) had a 964 cab that I saw once in awhile.
Favorite of the pro (or ex-pro) players in Oakland who came by was Derrick Ramsey, Tight End for the Raiders. Had an M471 Carrera Coupe he really took pride in owning. Google is wonderful--just found out he's A.D. at Coppin State U. in Baltimore.

Pete, Laffit Pincay was/is one of my Dad's all-time favorite jockeys! It's been years since I've heard his name, but as soon as I read your post, I remembered him. That's pretty cool

Funniest was Ruben Sierra, who lived up the hill from me. Had a Lambo Diablo, one of the first ones when he played for the A's in the early '90s. So he'd be going to the ballpark whenever--mid morning for day games, mid afternoon for night games. Every Single Day he'd light that thing up after coming to a stop at the intersection. I'd wave, figured he'd stop by with all the 911s I had around. Nope. Oh well.

Had Sammy Hagar's slopenose conversion in the shop once...horrible car...awful experience.
Just for kicks, my next door neighbor is a hall of fame pitcher. ******* Perry; he has a thing for ford trucks and antique tractors.
