What years were there changes in the bodys? I have seen a few things that look like they may be 73 and earlier, 74-77 and 78 and up but I am new to this and not sure which body to get. I hope to get one that has some of the better suspension components. any help?
The original 911 came out in 1964-1968. In 1969-1973, the stance changed a little and there was a slight flaring of the rear fenders. The next change took place from 1974-1977. The biggest being that cars designated as "Carrera's" had even wider flares and were the lead in to the 1978-1983 911SC's. In 1984-1989, the carrera had several updates, but the biggest was to the 3.2 L motor and in 1987, Porsche introduced the hydraulic clutch for 1987-1989 (referred to as the G50).
I have owned at least one 911 in each of these years. Of the 64-68, I think the 67S is the best. For the 69-73, the 73S tops my list. I did not keep my 76 very long as the 2.7L had heat problems. The 78-83 SC's were very good cars and dependable, but of all the groups, I personnally like the 84-89 Carrera's. I presently own a 1988 Carrera with the G50 tranny. Lots of power and shifts like a dream.
Each year Porsche upgrades the cars and tries to fix problems encountered on previous ones. I vote for the 1984-1989 vintage cars.
