The Porsche fuel lines are complete w compression fittings, same w Zims. You'll need at least a partial engine drop to remove the oil cooler. Once the engine is out, then it's up to your budget.

The only must-do would be the oil pressure switch and thermostat o-ring, which can both be replaced with the engine in the car in about 30 minutes.

Are these the right parts:

911 606 230 00 oil pressure switch (#45 in the picture)
999 701 053 40 oil thermostat o-ring (#36 in the picture)

Sure looks right. Get the green (viton) o-ring, which lasts longer than the rubber one.

As to your questions, I would drop the motor and do the breather, 3 cooler seals, etc. A great time to inspect everything. You may or may not get away with re-using the intake isolator donuts. No way I would've re used mine. I'd send the injectors off for cleaning, check your engine sound pad, CV's, breather hoses-the whole enchilada. I don't know if you posted your mileage, but the car is 25 years old and many parts are due.

There are some good threads on engine removal here and at the Pelican website.

The car only has 45k miles on it, but dropping the engine is probably still the smart thing to do. And at least the partial engine drop threads don't look too bad. However, I don't have the guts, time, or money to do it at this point. So I'm going to remove both intakes, and do the fuel lines, intake manifold gaskets, intermediate flanges, oil pressure switch, and thermostat o-ring.

Bagger,
You may want to do the crankcase vent housing gasket as well.

It is here: http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...0%281974-89%29

That is the "breather gasket" I mentioned a couple of times earlier....definitely one of the "three" up top under the manifold.

Yes, the breather gasket is among the "triangle of death" oil leak items. It is somewhat difficult to replace with the engine in the car. If you end up not replacing it, just check the torque on the nuts, and when the time is right for you we'll help you with the engine drop.

Thanks for your help everybody! I appreciate you putting up with my beginner questions and not necessarily understanding your recommendations the first time that you made them. The more I looked into this the more I realized that my "what should I replace while I'm in there" question is WIDE open; there are dozens of things that could go on the list. But with your help, I think that I have all the major ones. I plan to go the remove the intakes route and replace the following:

930 110 573 01 rubber sleeve that connects intake manifolds
930 110 595 05 (9) Fuel line – long T line of copper & rubber that runs from both rails back to the fuel filter - labeled A, B & C above
930 110 411 03 (19) Fuel line – hose from fuel regulator to damper – labeled D
930 110 509 01 (11) Fuel line – small line off the bottom of the regulator – labeled
930 110 459 00 intermediate flange (for intake manifold), need 6 total
930 110 197 08 gasket for 1985 (for intake manifold), need 12
928 606 124 00 oxygen sensor for 1985
911 606 230 00 oil pressure switch aka oil pressure warning lamp switch?
900 123 007 30 sealing ring A12x18 related to oil pressure switch
900 123 140 30 sealing ring A18x22 related to oil pressure switch
999 701 053 40 oil thermostat o-ring
930 107 791 02 Crankcase Breather Cover Gasket
928 110 253 06 fuel filter in engine compartment (ADDED)

IF you have time and think of something else that I'm missing or think I have something wrong, please let me know. If not, then thanks again for all your help!

I would add the oil thermostat O-ring. Another one that fails and makes a huge mess

I do see thermostat o-ring on the list but no fuel filter. Your call there, but I'd have one on hand at least in case the old one leaks on re-installation.

Doh! I missed it.

What about the vacuum hoses/lines? The one that comes off the intake boot and goes into the venturi pipe can be problematic as it dries/cracks.
