1976 Signature 911S
Hi
I'm trying to find information on a limited edition 911S sold in 1976, with Ferry Porsche's signature on the headrests. I believe it was separate to the Anniversary car of the previous year.
Can anyone throw any light on this? In particular the spec and the numbers made?
Cheers
Phil

the platnum gold looking ones. 1976 911s, my dad bought one new and still has it, the signature is on the wheel. If its the one your talking about. He still has the the window sticker it was 16K. not sure about the numbers made. 2.7 tweed interior, cookie cutter wheels paint matched platnum gold.

Phil,
I can possibly help you a little bit with this. We used to have one at one of the shops I worked at previously and I did a bunch of research on it at the time to figure out what it was. I think I still have some things I printed out from my internet searches and will pass on any information that I can.
BTW, not to take your thread too far off track, but thanks for featuring me this month in your "Meet the Specialist" feature. I've already gotten a bunch of phone calls from people congratulating me for it.

Hi
Thanks for the replies. Interesting that you say the signature is on the wheel.
Matt, any info would be much appreciated. Porsche has no data on this car, and I was beginning to think it didn't exist!

Phil, did some quick digging this afternoon and was able to find a paragraph in "Excellence Was Expected", volume 2, page 678. Also, in the 1st edition on page 766. Appears to be the same info. Doesn’t include any production info.
Also, appears that all models may have been Targas, but can't confirm.
I have several books I can look at this weekend.
Scott.

1976 911S Ferry Signature Edition was a 1 of 200 Edition (is my understanding). This was a special edition with a few distinguishing characteristics, including the interior, trim & exterior paint. The steering wheel has a engraved facsimile of Ferry Porsche’s signature. The cars were painted platinum metallic and had champagne/tan carpet. The rear seats, the door panels, and the interior rear side panels were upholstered with a woven plaid material unique to the Signature Edition. Exterior color code 944-9-3 Platinum Diamond Metallic (PLATINDIAMANT MET), color matched ATS Cookie Cutters & Drivers Mirror & Headlight Trim Rings and had Black Targa Bar & Porsche Rocker Stripe.
Number of photos (interior & exterior) listed with links in this ’76 Ferry Signature 911S for-sale ad:

1976 Signature car Value?
I found one of these cars locally and wonder what it's value is?
1 of 200 made ????
Totaly restored with engine upgrades about 80K on the clock, matching #s, tweed interior. Basically new everything, paint, interior, engine upgrades and all the signature stuff.
Aren't 2.7 the bastard child of 911?
Will have a PPI and leak down down if the real deal.
Seriously are these old 70's cars worth investing in and what is the value of a
signature car?
Thanks
Mike

inmydreams,
Sold mine (Craigs listing in previous post - owned it for a lot of years), for a fair price (over value of other models of this era). Probably could have sold it 5 more times over, based on the interest I got. If you have questions and or would like any reference photos, shoot me a PM. I have seen a few of these '76 Ferry's advertised that were not the true deal ...
The value, from my experience, is directly related to the potential owner either liking the '76 Ferry combination, or not. With the period correct modifications, issues you mentioned (bastard child of 911) can be effectively mitigated. Yes these '70's 911 are gonna carry good long-term value if you can find a good one for sale (I sold the '76 Ferry but choose to keep my '73.5 - best of this era in my humble opinion - have a list of folks who would like to buy the '73.5).

I like these Signature editions for their colour scheme including the Fuchs. I think the "signature" itself is a bit hokey. Notwithstanding that, I bid on the one that CarPlanet has for sale. They are asking $29,995. Just last week I bid $28,000 for that car subject to a PPI. After a couple of days, they came back and offered the car to me at $28.500. In the meantime, I had bought a 1970 911T, so I passed.
That Signature 911 is still for sale, here:

Oops..... just realized you are referring to the 1976 signature edition and not the 1986. Didn't know there were two such editions, separated by 12 years. The 1988 version is described as "Ferry Porsche Signature Edition" A limited edition built only in 1988 to commemorate 250,000 911's produced."

Hi,
Do you have any photos of your dad's porsche? I recently purchased a 1976 911s Targa special edition and am trying to restore it back to original specs. Any photos you have would be greatly appreciated.
Best,
Maggie

Maggie,
Yes, both photos and video.
I believe only things non-stock/OEM on ours included upgraded hydraulic cam chain tensioners, tires, black painted Targa bar, and possibly the Blaupunkt radio & removable rear shelf speaker tray.
What areas of the car are you in question?
Might be best to communicate outside the OP's thread (email ?).
Maybe I can help ;-)

1976 Signature edition 911
Hi Matt,
I found this thread from a while back. I currently have a Signature edition that I'm compiling information on prior to taking it to Gooding & Co. this January. I'm trying to acquired a published number of examples that were produced. Iv'e seen stated less than 200, and Ive also seen stated less than 30? I'm most interested in something that has been published if your research turned anything up. Thank you in advance!
