Need you guys....
Hi,
I´ve been lurking around these forums for quite some time and now it is time for me to "come out". This is a fantastic forum and I have enjoyed visiting it for years.
I live in Southern Sweden and have had a life long passion for cars. Now it is finally time for me to get my first 911 and I need your advice to build up my confidence.
I have my eye on a -79 which has been restored but not quite finished yet, has some interior work to be done. I would like you guys to give me some advice as to what to look for in order to not get to many surprises after purchase.

Here is a link to pictures from the restore:
https://picasaweb.google.com/bjm.ols...eat=directlink
and here is a link to the selling ad (in Swedish...):
http://www.blocket.se/ostergotland/E...m?ca=23_11&w=3
According to the ad it has a 3.0 ,which should be correct for a -79 (?!), which has been rebuilt. Its is a no sunroof coupe and has new paint.
It should be an SC, right?
If there is any info that is "critical" for you to give me good solid advice let me know and I´ll try to find out.

Southern Sweden? Is that somewhere near Majorca?
How was the car before restoration? Mechanics? Rust, rust, rust. Mileage? I would say that if the car got anything other than a paint job and new interior, it's too much and you should continue looking. VAT is what? 19% if you bring one in from Euroland? US?
Interior work (other than headliner) is pretty strraight forward. You can buy a kit for a known amount of money & get an estimate from an auto upholsterer. Then, guess what? You're upside down. It's always cheaper to get a finished car.

Someone did a nice job on the restoration. I'd probably position the horns straight up and down (vertically).
The rust damage is a butt-puckering shot though. You must use salt on the roads in winter. If the car was driven much in snow, I would be very careful, even with the re-paint. I don't have any experience at all with snow-salt damage. But I can say that cars from beach areas sustain rust that you just can't ever completely repair.

Looks interesting, and looks like they did a nice job. Could be acid damage gone unchecked there in front of the gas tank.
I don't know what to convert to get to $ as to sell price.
A '79 will indeed be an SC with a 3.0.

Thanks for the input!
The ad says that the car is 100% rustfree to me that would mean that all the rust in the restoration pics has been tended to.
As for the 3.0 are there any issues with that engine I should be aware of, like the headstuds on the 2.7?!
I am waiting for a reply from the owner as to what kind of work (and by who) has been done to the engine and gearbox. Will also ask about the rust issues.
The price is 155` SEK which would be with todays rate around $24000 but is is hard to compare US prices to Swedish seems to be a fair price compared to other units on sale. Prices in Germany are even higher...
Thanks again for the input.

all cars have their issues .. but i can tell you the 3.0 has the reputation of one of the most durable engines ever built by Porsche.
