Default Trading my 996 for a 75 911?

I test drove an 83 sc before I bought my 1999 911. From the clutch being hard to push in, scared to go above 4k rpm for fear of more rattling and something breaking, and having to firmly push the brake pedal to even attempt to stop. I stopped in the middle of the intersection at the first stop sign. I decided to go with the more modern 996 because I'm a believe in technology advancements and going with the latest and greatest I can afford.

Well this more modern car a/c stopped worked, and the immobilizer left me stranded and I find myself trying to remove all these comfort creatures. (carpet, airbags, stereo, speakers, rear seats, door panels etc)

These old cars aren't easy to drive...yet? Will I learn how to drive this car or will it be a constant battle driving around town?

here's a picture of it, it has a 993 gt2 body kit on it! so sweet! I hate the look of mk1 996 headlights

A '75 is not among the most desirable air-cooleds. Sell your car and then decide what you like. An '84-89 Carrera is a good choice. You shouldn't have to worry about revving one that is in good shape above 4K.

The same can be said for a good SC, but I prefer Carreras. Sounds like you drove an unloved example.

having come from a 996 I can tell you that a few weeks ago I drove a 996 and when I pushed the clutch in to start the car I almost put my foot thry the floor, then the shifter didnt move and I was in gear (short throw) and I couldnt hear the motor.... and it had power steering?

I guess I am more at home in my 86' than I thought - I didnt care for the experience

PS I hit 6k RPM almost every day thru at least 2 and 3 (sometimes 1 and 4 too ) - and I bet my little brake pads will stop it just fine - it just takes actual learning how to get the most out of them

After owning a nice '85 ZZZ Carrera, I bought an excellent sunroof-delete 996 which was totally trouble free for the two years I drove it. However, everytime I saw a nice 911 driving around, I realized how much more I liked the 911. So I sold the 996 to a Rennlist member and found a very low mileage 911, and haven't regretted it for a moment.

As a previous poster mentioned, you might enjoy an 80s Carrera over an SC or a 996/7, especially an '89. 993's are nice as well, especially the Holy Grail car: the '94 Turbo 3.6

Best of luck!

Totally different cars - may as well compare a Civic and a SUV. I think most people would have trouble going from a 996 to an early car (1965-1983) The carreras are a little more plush and have better NVAH.

964 is more civilized and 993 even more so.

You haven't lived until you drive an early car. The essence is all there. And there is a distinct difference between a SWB car and a LWB ('69-'73). The difference between that LWB and a '74 and later LWB is just as noticeable too.

I like everything Porsche makes save for the Cayenne and Panamera but they have become heavy GT cars. Don't get me wrong because I'd have a 964 in a minute but driving an early car is an experience I'm not willing to give up quite yet.

I've got a sedan, a wagon and a plush truck if I want comfort.

I don't think there's much "'75" left on that car. This a straight up trade? As depressed as 996 prices are, I'd make sure you fully understand you're looking at getting something nearly totally illiquid in trade.
