Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
I’ve been giving my 997.2 a “step-motherly” treatment ever since the advent of the 3.2 into my garage and now more so with the addition of our new family hauler which incidentally is also made by Porsche. Part of the problem was the fact that my 997.2 has been my daily driver since day one. Despite being blessed with some amazing backroads there is only that much you can push a daily driver within the confines of legal speed limits and I am not the one to flaunt a sports car amidst fellow road users by revving it high or taking very sharp turns in town. Hence it’s been a very long time since I’ve truly tapped or even recognized her hidden potential. There have been times where I also recently contemplated if I truly needed a water-cooled 911 or perhaps even trading it for another 911 with a more raw and visceral fell a la 3.2 type car with the modern safety net ( ABS, air-bags etc). When I came home after work and parked my 3.2 besides my 997.2, she spoke to me in several ways. This was the message that she telegraphed into my grey matter: You dumbass, I am the reason you got into Porsches and you don’t even know what I am capable of and here you are trying to get rid of me. C’mon get the dust off of me tonight and let me breathe a bit. This initiated an involuntary metamorphosis within me. The urge to push my water-cooled 997.2 gripped me too strongly, and I did something that I rarely do which is not spend time with my family getting a rundown of the day’s events with my two daughters. Instead I immediately picked up my camera and rushed out to my 997.2, and took out the Heyde within me on the 997.2. During this time I also photographed her with the same enthusiasm and pride that I shot my 3.2 and Cayenne S. (You all know my love affair with the 3.2. The Cayenne S was special too since that was our first car that we custom ordered with great input from every family member ie wife and daughters). During the next hour my 997.2 rewarded my camera with some striking poses reiterating the fact that she was elegance personified in metal, leather and glass and simultaneously rewarded my senses with her tactility and time and again showcased the apex of German engineering. I also realized (as how some of my friends here at RL feel) how fortunate I am to experience the complete spectrum of Porsches.
I was not sure if my 911 family at Rennlist would welcome pics of my 997.2. I paused long and hard but then I figured coming from w00t…..anything should be okay on this section. Right… or am I wrong. I would love to hear your thoughts and comments. BTW, she just turned 10,000 miles yesterday. What the first 9950 miles did not teach me … these last 50 miles did. IT IS ONE AMAZING CAR....ONE THAT I HOPEFULLY NEVER GIVE AWAY.

Well some more poorly-focussed, lousy pictures of a boring car...
J/K!!
I think the 997 is a brilliant car, and I am very excited about the 9A1 motor.
True, you can't have the really raw, visceral feel of a 3.2* in a car with all the capabilities of a 997, but it is an outstanding and well-built car and I dig how you are able to appreciate the old and the new whilst some others feel they have to be in one camp or the other.
The only drawback about these cars is that the perfomance capability is so far above legal road use, that it is very hard to get that "approaching the upper end" feeling. Not that one can really approach the "limit" in a 3.2 on the road (or should they), but you can get a lot closer I guess.
*"really raw, visceral" is highly relative though... many would consider a 3.2 too refined relative to earlier 911s!

I feel a track day coming on.
Get with Ivangene on the next DE in your area and make a date.
Then let us know what your gray-matter was telegraphed.
All good w00t. keep doing all that you do.

Amar, have you joined your local PCA chapter?
We're getting to know the folks in ours and they're nice people.
They have all kinds of activities, from "drive and dine" outings to track days.
Also, have you considered sending a letter and some of your great photos to Porsche North America?
Seriously, you're their dream customer and you may get their attention!
Great photos and story as always!

Are you serious on my pictures. Do you think I should just write to PCNA and see if they would post on Panorama or Christophorus ?? I would love to give it a shot.
Now I'm really getting excited. Seriously guys ??

1) You DO take good photos.
2) You have an interesting story of how you were drawn into the Porsche world.
3) You selected your 3.2 911 in a very wise fashion and I think the tale is instructive for others getting into the market.
You were much smarter than I. I purchased an "OK" 911 with the feeling that I would fix up as necessary (I do like working on cars and am pretty well equipped for that). Although I probably would still make the same mistakes again, what I have learned is, although I can fix the 911 up, it is lot more expensive this way (even doing the work myself).
I like your story because you were smart, listened to advice and remained open-minded. Heck, you started out dead-set on a G50, but decided to focus on condition instead. Yeah, smart!
Finally, I think it is cool the way you can appreciate a 911, 997 and Cayenne for their individual merits.
