Default Break in Oil

Hate to start an oil thread... but... Im close to finishing my rebuild... What do you use for break in oil? Some say Brad Penn 30 ($7/Qt), some say cheapest oil I can find. I have cases of good 20w50 Kendall GT1 and Valvoline 20w50 VR1... I even have an old case of Exxon Superflow 20w50 from about 7 years ago. Its not SM rated. Can I use one of these or do I need to go out and get special oil?

I used BP 30 on my initial 20 minute run to set the cams. The thought is getting nice full flow to everything, and for some "flushing" action, I believe. After that, I went to 20/50. I'm not sure I'd use the cheapest oil I can find-for the quick 20 min run-in, it may make no difference, but then again, it is the engine's first steps.

My motor cost quite a bit-I figured oil was relatively cheap.

If Douglas reads this-when I make my statements of what it costs to rebud an engine, I probably had $250 for oil and filters in this, not to mention probably $200 in cleaning materials. These all add up.

many run a non-detergent 30 wt...I use BP break in oil. You can also use your usual oil and add a bottle of Redline or Comp Cams Break-in additive.

I agree. Small price to pay. BP 30 it is. Thanks Ed.
