Default TDC Sensor NLA? 911 606 108 00

I'm doing a parts search and Pelican shows this as NLA for genuine Porsche.

Anybody else run into this?

If so, what other sources are out there?
The P/N 911 606 108 00 is used on 944, 928 and 968 in addition to the 911.
Seems unlikely it would be NLA completely.

Does Pelican's system show NLA when they are out of stock?

I will be checking with my dealer on Monday but wanted to solicit inputs first.

The TDC and speed sensors are available at Paragon Products for about 50% of dealer price.

And they are a DEAD MATCH for the stock parts, except you have to use your own label maker to add the DG and BG tags.

Thank Whalebird for this link, not me: http://www.paragon-products.com/Refe...61.210.002.htm

Both the links above (both previous posters) point to the TDC and speed sensors. The original poster asked about the 911 606 108 00 - which is the timing mark sender. Physically it looks different than the TDC and speed sensors.

As the original poster mentioned, it is used in the 911 and the 928 (both my concern as well). I spent some time looking and this item (911 606 108 00) does indeed appear to be flagged as NLA - from various suppliers.

I thought I found a source for this 911 606 108 00 however the vendor had the TDC part with the wrong description.

So I too am curious what others are doing when the timing mark sensor needs to be replaced?

In PET 7 parts diagram, it is item 18 (the TDC and speed sensors are items 13 in the same diagram)

Cheers
Glenn

My mistake, sorry.

Supposedly that means none of the Porsche dealers have it. I've found that this is not always the case, and one or two may have one. But most likey the best way to get one is to find the Bosch part number and search using it, rather than a Porsche number.

This begs the question.... What fails in these sensors and can they be repaired?

Or, can one of the speed/reference senders be modified to work in the timing mark sensor application?

Well Scott looks like if that sensor fails you may have to go buy an SC

I am going to shoot from the hip. The TDC sensor is for use only when "tuning". It is an external sensor for measuring rpm and tdc. IIRC it is not in use.

Some here (especially Canucks) would argue it would an upgrade to get an SC

Bingo! I took 3 seconds today and traced the wires from the sensor.... Guess where they terminated? At the three pin terminal under the IAC..... Yep, for tuning purposes.

The 928 guys actually turned me on to it being a tuning port as most of them remove or ignore it.

Guess I will save a few bucks and not worry about this one.

I'm glad this was brought to a conclusion for future owners to read and comprehend.

What prompted you to want to replace it?

I've never know anyone to replace one of those. The two reference sensors are another story.

No wonder these cars so are expensive ... all the spare parts that "do nothing" thrown in

Thanks for chasing this one down.

Luckily I didn't replace it. I was doing an inventory of things that needed to be done and found the TDC sender on the engine and thought "This will be a royal PITA to change with the engine in the car". So I hunted for the part to see the cost and found it NLA.

Then I did a little more digging and found it serves almost no purpose for practical uses so..... The old one is going back in.

The insulation on the two reference senders crumbled when I unbolted them.... It was only a matter of time before I was left stranded.
