Last year the best I could sell a perfect factory deck with tea tray spoiler was $300, so the parts market has crashed as well.

Ed, after I bought my car and realized that it had a front spoiler but no rear (newbie still learning), I researched the 911 forum and found several posts that reflect what you said. Even PET makes it clear that both front and rear are needed. I guess adding front spoilers was a big dealer option back then to make some $$$.

I considered removing my front spoiler but my mechanic said that leaving it wouldn't be a factor at normal speeds. I like the look of a non spoiler front end but it appears that removing it would leave holes in the lip.

Tea Tray and Carrera tails are not the same. I still think factory Carrera tails have some more value, although they probably are distressed a bit.

Most feel you can run the front, with no rear, but not the other way.

Carrera tail (mine):

"Tea Tray" (Used on 1978 and later turbos with the intercoolers, and on turbo-looks as well - pic "borrowed" from Net):

Main visual distinction from the top is that the tea tray has side fences. From the side, the tea tray is also contoured to fit the intercooler.

AHudson; your situation is far from the norm, but would delight my wife! I went to great lengths to install a Carrera tail on my '82 SC (pic below), and now my wife doesn't like the car anymore. We were out driving a couple weeks ago, and saw a red coupe in very nice condition. My wife said quietly, "That car sure looks good without a tail..." Oh, well. BTW, leaving the front spoiler installed will not change your performance/handling enough to ever notice, but it will hide the protective bar for the front A/C condenser.

I'm trying to figure how to delicately tell my wife that I would delight your wife.

I like the Carrera tail on a narrow body car just fine. I also like the front spoiler with or without. My car's a Targa, so to my eye, the tea tray looks clunkier than normal, so it's a goner.

That thing is one piece of sophisticated rubber though. Compound curves galore, nicely contured. If I had a wide body, different story.

I don't do enough driving above 80 or 85 to make any difference, so I'm really just for purity of line here. Oh, and I believe my grill is soon to be on its way!

WOOHOO! A grill shaped box arrived yesterday, can't wait to get into it! Thanks Ivangene!

I have a hot cup of coffee in my soon-to-be-dirty little hands, heading to finish a wiring upgrade on the Fcar, and will relieve my stress by removing one tea tray spoiler. Can't wait. Fun stuff!

Finally. And I mean FINALLY got my factory 'tail less' decklid back from getting painted. They did a remarkable job.

I asked that they cut some of the 'gloss' out of the clear coat, and wonder of wonders they did. The thing is a dead on match.

I now have the factory decklid on and it looks great. It's amazing the amount of 'stuff' mounted under there.

Condenser lines, engine light wires, bumpers, shims, clips, brackets. Then of course the actual grill which finishes it all off. (This was the thing I didn't have but bought from a RLer.)

All in all, super worthwhile. Love the stock look. I'm one 'Carrera' sticker away from completion!

And I need to send a big thanks to Adams for passing on his tail. It arrived at the end of last week (just in time for another great snow storm here ) but arrived it did ... well packed and in great shape. Got a front spoiler coming as well ...
Once the snow is gone and the cars come out to play, I will have some work to do (things to paint and install).

Thanks again Adams

Glad it found a good home! (Or will soon enough.) Gonna be a fun project. Thanks to you, I turned the $ for the tail into a guitar kit my son and I are building. All good. Keep us posted.

I agree with Ed Hughes, your car and your money, but that tea tray is not a superfluous piece, especially if you're running the front spoiler. If you want to go "tailless" I'd rethink that front spoiler too.

Personally I would leave the front even if you took the back one off . It looks good and highly doubt it would negatively affect anything . You will however notice the back one gone i you do a lot of high speed driving

I don't do enough high speed to worry about. I'm so darn thrilled with the 'untailed' look that the car just seems more 'right'.

I plan on keeping the front spoiler; probably not gonna lift my rear wheels off the ground at the speeds I drive. I just like the stock look.
