Greetings,
Here's one of those "why didn't I mark my plug wires when I took them off?" type of questions. I do not have a compression tester to verify #1 TDC. However, I think I have located #1 on the distributor correctly (from pictures???). I moved all wires one to the left and right of my guessed #1 and got big backfires!! So, I think the guessed #1 is correct.
Here's my problem: the car starts easily, but has absolutely no power...at all. It ran fine before I removed the wires (without marking them of course!!). Feels like it's 180 out. I arranged the spark plug wires from #1 per the firing order in a clockwise direction 1-6-2-4-3-5 as looking down onto the distributor cap. Should I have gone CCW and would the car run with little to no power by arranging the wires CW from #1?
Best regards,

Kevin,
Number 1 is TDC when the rotor points towards the fan housing strap, at 3 on a watch, and the "Z1" mark on the pulley flywheel lines up with the notch on the fan housing. Since you don't have a 911SC, the rotation is clockwise, 1-6-2-4-3-5. However, if your 3.0L is a 911SC engine, the rotation would be counter-clockwise.

Kevin,
Best be sure on the rotation direction by removing the distributor cap and looking at the rotor move when you rotate the engine by pushing the car in 5th. I agree with Bill on setting tdc but am not sure about the direction of rotation.

Bill and Ned,
Thanks for the info...finally decided (duh) to pop off the distributor cap, turn over the engine and see which way the rotor cap rotates. Turned out to be CCW. My guessed #1 pointed towards the housing strap. I just re-arranged the wires and what do ya know, power!! Good thing the distributor caps are notched on 911's.
