Clutch Engagement on 964

My 92 C2's clutch engagement is very close to the top, and I was wondering whether this is typical for a 964. 964 owners: how far from the floor does your clutch engage?
The car just had its 45,000 mile service, and my mechanic said the clutch doesn't need to replaced. However, sometimes, if I let the clutch out slowly for a smooth launch I can feel some shuddering. I'm trying to figure out whether this is a sign for clutch replacement, is typical, or whether I need to have an adjustment made.
Thanks for any info.

Drew:
I have a '91 C4 but I've driven many C2s prior to my purchase. On my car (and all the others I drove) the engagement seemed to occur at about half the distance between where the pedal is fully depressed and fully released.
The clutch is hydraulic but there are some things that can be adjusted. I would offer some advice, but after looking at the service manual and AllData, this setup is a little foreign to me, and I'm not going to take guesses at your expense. I'll look into this further just out of curiousity (the service manual, by the way, is REALLY lame!).
The shuddering you're mentioning could be a symptom of a dual mass flywheel failing, but it's more than likely that you've developed some "hot spots" on the clutch disk and flywheel. I think a dual mass flywheel problem wouldn't come and go, they would be constant and getting continually worse.
All the problems you're describing may just be symptoms of clutch disk wear.
Good Luck,
Bill Wagner

Just a guess-the shuddering may be several things- t/o bearing that is sticking, and possibly gear lube has leaked past the flywheel seal and has taken residence on your disc. If this were a 89-90, I also would be suspicious of a dual mass going south, but with your miles and the fact that it is a 92 makes that less likely. How did your mechanic determine that you did NOT need a new clutch? Was the engine out?
