When people ask me (2 brothers), I simply tell them that Me and my wife are the only people insured on this restrictive policy. End of story.

Years ago when I was a lot younger a work colleague once asked for a drive of my targa.

I politely told him that I only let 3 types of people drive my Porsche,
1. People who own a 911 themselves, so that we may compare cars.
2. People that have a bank balance large enough to cover any damage that they may cause.
3. People that Fu*k for me!!! (As my girlfriend used to drive it a bit.)

The shock of number three put him off asking again. And before you ask, I'm straight, I just have a sick sense of humor

Regarding the insurance "ace" in CO and most US states your auto insurance covers the car and not the named drivers. So long as a driver has your permission to drive the car, your insurance will cover the car, damages and liabilities. Our son's college roommate had an accident in his car, had permission to drive, our insurance covered.

IMHO - It really just boils down about how you feel about letting someone else drive your car. I have offered the 3.2 to folks to drive as I think that it is such a wonderful car, I would like others to experience what I think is so special about the car. Perhaps sharing with them some of my own Neurosis, an explanation on why I am always working on my cars, reading about Porsche, looking for Porsche event...however for me they are just cars. Wonderful, exciting to drive but just cars.

There is no doubt on that. The point is that it is a somewhat classy way to turn down someone if you want to use it and not offend. The words "restrictive policy" were the key. Most getting that reply would not question it.

I skipped a few words the first time reading this and had to re-read. I "thought" he was saying something about his wife was the reason. I had to laugh and think

I can't let you drive my car, my wife said so.....

That's my new Ace in the Hole !!

Logic doesnt even have to come into play, most guys would just "get it" LMAO! - She let me have the car as long as I follow a few "rules"
Along the same lines as "My wife lets me make all the big decisions in our marriage. However in 14 years we havent had a big decision yet?"
