Default Tis the season - oil leaks

Well it seems when the temps plummet my 911 suffers from "shrinkage" so oil drips start to appear. Haven't seen one in months. Anyone else notice this?

I guess I need to heat the garage.

I haven't crawled under to look yet - floor is too damn cold. This happened last year - when warm weather arrived the oil drips stopped. I have a Ferrari 308 that suffers from this same thing although no leaks have appeared under her . . . . yet.

Almost always, probably 98% of the time, the oil return tube o-rings are leaking. During the summer, when your car is probably used almost every day, the oil tubes won't leak. It generally takes about 3-4 days of non-use for the oil level in the crankcase to raise high enough to put pressure on the o-rings; that's why this problem is noticed most often in the winter months.

I also have seen it occur many times when a customer had gone on vacation for more than 4-5 days, in summer, only to arrive home to a small puddle under their engine. They immediately called me, and after their explanation I told them to drive the car a couple of times and keep an eye on it. They would, the leak would stop, and they would have us replace the oil tube o-rings at the next scheduled service.

What oil do you use? I never had a leak in a 911 from that era even in the winters of Colorado.
