Post Air-cooled tyro...

...refugee from the water-cooled site (gulp!) - now that the wife is expecting I may have to scale back a bit, but want to stick with a Pcar if possible.

Can anyone please tell me the year and model-type of the 911 which Robert Redford is driving in the 2001 thriller Spy Game... looks a very pretty shape, lots of style... also some idea of pricing, and reputable East Coast dealers?

Many thanks.

The principal car used in "Spy Game" (they apparently used 3 different cars at various times during the filming) is actually a 1969 Irish Green 912 that the filmmakers rented from a member of the PCA Potomac Region. I've seen it at several events here and can vouch for the fact that it looks even better in person than it did in the film. Do a forum search on "Spy Game" for more details.

In looking for a car, you may find, condition being equal, that the older cars may well be more expensive than the newer ones. There are fewer of them still around and the good ones are going for a premium - either because they've been (expensively) restored or because they've been so well-cared-for that they don't need restoration. For example, if you can handle the looks of the later models, there are a lot of good '78-'83 911 SCs out there for $15K or so. Unfortunately, there are also a fair number of dogs as well and fixing anything on a 911 is an expensive proposition. Be patient when looking, don't let an emotional moment lead you to overlook or minimize the problems on a particular car, and before you make the deal get it checked out by an expert.

Cheg996:

Keep in mind that the earlier cars (pre 996) have smaller interior dimensions than the 996. So, I would have to assume baby seats will fit better in the 996 vs. an earlier car (if you plan to haul kids in a 911).

Curious: In the last year a 1968 green 911 was for sale on E-bay, twice. Listed as a car used in that movie (documented?) S/N 11810117. It went unsold at bids twice, once at $15,600 and again at $14,900.
