Default Selling my 1988 Coupe

Need to raise funds and make space for a GT3, so I am reluctantly selling my car. I hope it is ok to post this here. I guess I'll be perusing the other rennlist forums more now.

Thanks,

David

For Sale – Silver 1988 Porsche Carrera - $23,000

I purchased the car in 2002 and have driven it with pleasure. The car has approximately 121,000 miles

The car has had 3 significant upgrades:

1) Top End Rebuild. Completed in 2003 at 97000 miles by IPB Autosport in Sacramento. This was not a generic top end job. Included were EBS Valve Springs, ARP Studs, 964 Cams, and head polishing. Total Bill $8800

2) Suspension Redo. Completed in 2005 at 107000 miles. Everything replaced. Adjustable sways, turbo tie rods, adjustable spring plates, elephant bushings, torsion bars 22/30, shocks, etc. Subsequently replaced rear sway mounts with Wevo. Total Bill $8700

3) Air Conditioning. Complete replacement and upgrade in April 2008. Installed Retroaire kit. All new hoses, compressor, rear condenser, etc.. Kit cost $1500, labor ~ $1500
Other add ons: Steve Wong chip, Fire Extinguisher on Brey Krause mount

There are a couple of cosmetic issues. The dash is cracked, but I have not been able to bring myself to replace it because I can’t see it when I am driving. There is also a touchup paint repair on the passenger door (pretty good job – I didn’t even notice it until after I bought the car). The car has not been crashed to my knowledge, though I had some body work done to correct a bent fender.

The paint is in really good condition, though there is evidence of the car being driven for 24 years. It is not ready for a repaint.

That is a very well-upgraded car. That engine and suspension work adds a lot of value IMO.

Good luck with the sale.

It is a nice car, and I know exactly what it costs to make changes. The thing is, stock cars in great shape probably are worth more. I'm sure there's a buyer somewhere for this. Good luck!

Good Luck with the sale. About a year ago my Dad did a similar thing and sold his Red 86 Carrara for his 2010 GT3.

He loves the new car (Its Rediculously fast) but does at times say he still misses the old Air Cooler. He also says the GT3 is the only car that he would have replaced is '86 with. At least now he cannot give me a hard time for having a Porsche with a Water Cooled Engine (1988 944) ;-)

David911, I guess we understand, but that's one sweet '88 Carrera. If you can manage to keep both the 997 GT3, and the '88 Carrera--you should try to swing that. Both are great cars, but I bet you'll miss your '88 Carrera when it's gone--and it will be by next Spring I bet!

Keep them both! I really enjoy tracking my "6" GT3 then leaving the track in the Speedster to grab lunch. Nothing like it....

Congrats on the 7 GT3 - beautiful car. If you choose to sell the '88, then good luck...

It's very subtle!

I like the carrera, but orcare not an acceptable commuter car - no modern safety devices, and very weird heating and cooling. That added charm in the weekends though.

I will drive the GT3 about 100 miles a day. It is noisy and stiff compared to my previous daily driver (Mercedes E550 coupe), but not compared to the Carrera.

And the GT3 is omg fast!
