Default Transmission Separation 86' Carrera

I can't seem to separate the trans from the engine. I removed the four bolts as per the 101 book. As soon as I try to pull trans apart from the engine about a half an inch and let go, the trans pulls back toward the engine. Please help.

Have to remove the clutch adjusting mechanism. The little counter adjustment piece with the helper spring and 8 X 1.25mm bolt attached. There's a circlip on the bottom holding it on.

Misadjustment of that was always the #1 reason for premature clutch replacement when I had my shop.

Thanks, that did the trick.

Hope you studied the orientation of the assy or took pics. That is always fun to re-assemble your first time. Wait until you have the engine/trans back in the car before you put it back on.

Not to mention making sure you actually have the release fork mated properly to the release (throwout) bearing. Had many a guy call me asking why the ____ tranny doesn't tighten all the way up to the engine.

Again, clutch cable setup (both the tube AND the release arm) is paramount to a long lasting clutch. Not to mention the clevis and/or pin up in the pedal box. Seen many of them oval out and cause no manner of adjustment issues.
