Decepher options on my car

Decepher options on my car
Can someone tell me how to determine the options my car came with from the VIN; i.e. LSD, etc, things that are not visibly obvious?
I know the car was purchased in Germany in 82 and brought to the US in '85 by looking at the stamped service records.
Thanks

Check the inside of the trunk hood. The factory attached a sticker there with the VIN and all of the 3-digit option codes listed. There is supposed to be a matching sticker inside of the Driver's Manual (although mine was missing).
If the sticker is on your car, search "Porsche option decoder" on the web and you should be able to determine how your car was originally delivered.

The importation of grey market cars into the USA from Germany was extremely popular in the mid-1980s time frame. The exchange rate was very favorable, and plenty of Germans were eager to dump their used cars on the USA. You cannot determine options from just reading the VIN. Submit for a cert. of authenticity from Porsche AG--but be prepared for errors.

the PET is the electronic parts catalog that is used by the dealer parts department. It has exploded axonometric diagrams of parts assemblies that are very helpful to see specific parts in relation to their neighboring parts as well as their #'s and names. Most of you have seen parts of the PET even if you did not know what it was called.
