Post Discontinued Porsche Parts

One thing I've marveled at about our Porsches has been the availability of parts. However, I've recently run across 3 that have been discontinued by Porsche, so FYI.

One is the air guide that goes behind the alternator, which guides air to the left bank of cylinders.

One is the auxiliary air regulator (911SC). They are still available from Bosch OEM at 40-50% more than Porsche.

One is the fan housing strap which secures the fan housing to the engine.

I'm sure there are more, but I happen to run across these recently.

Note: I got an email that says the "optional" deceleration valve is also no longer available from Porsche.

Bill,

I was able to get a new band strap for my 87 this past winter. It is not the same as the original though. The new one is a 964 part number, but it is a direct replacement. Not good for the concours crowd. I like it, it's nice and shiny new.

Two things that I know of off the top of my head.

The Carrera Club Sport decal for the front fender is NLA

The clutch shaft update kit part no. 000 721 929 20 (arbor and cutter kit to open up the bearing supports) is discontinued.

I guess the parts will become harder and harder to find. I know the convertable control unit for 83-89 is no longer available. You have to get a 993 box and modify it. I do have 2 older working control units. Maybe I will hold on to them for an investment, has to be better than what my stock portfolio looks like. I hate those margin calls.

When there is sufficient demand for a NLA part, that's usually when the after-market kicks in to fill the gap. Take the 356 owners for an example....there is almost nothing you can't buy for these 40+ year old cars. That's the nice thing about owning a Porsche; it's an enthusiasts car.

I have a 2014 Panamera S hybrid. The ac/dc converter is not functioning and the part is discontinued, any suggestions?

Hi Billy. Welcome to Rennlist! In this forum (air-cooled) we're usually looking for parts that are 30 to 50 years old. Hard to believe Porsche would discontinue a part for a car that new, especially one that sounds pretty important. Maybe superseded by another part number?

Is this the part? https://www.sunsetporscheparts.com/o...er-970608060hx

Otherwise I think you have to go used on eBay or one of the Porsche dismantlers.

Interesting that the OP posted in the wrong forum, reviving a 20 year old thread. That said, in restoring my '69 911 (a particularly difficult problem given that many parts are one-year-only), with a lot of scrounging effort and Googling I was able to find most required parts as NOS, and almost all the rest used. Only one truly important one-year-only part could not be found at all, so we had had to repair and revise the original to make it work.

But restoring a '69 911 is quite a different kettle of fish than repairing a '14 Panamera S hybrid.

Curious, what part was that?

Left fresh air inlet box, which was heavily damaged in a long-ago accident. The '69 is different than what went before and came after, which simply didn't fit. We had to repair/rebuild/remanufacture the damaged one. What a production that turned out to be!
