Cool just fixed my tranny...

Hey guys...
Just got my tranny fixed (was stuck in 3rd and with a little help from Phd Porshe got it back out ) but before I get it back on the road I need to put back oil, and get it re-insured.

1. How much oil should I put back in the tranny ( I have an 83 SC Cab with a 915)? and any tricks?

2. Seeing I just use the car on weekends, and not that often do you guys know of any occasional driving car insurance companies?

Thanks a lot for your tips.

I have an '84 911 could not get the fill plug or drain plug to move. I had to take it to a mech. I was doing it correctly just not applying enough force...hard to believe since my left hand is still bruised from three days of pulling. The trick is not to use a 17 MM tool on a ratchet/or breaker bar (it is way too large to fit in the close area), but to use the 17 MM Allen wrench...then the mech. used a very large pipe (for leverage) and, pop it broke free. The allen wrench has just enough bend to fit in the tight area whereas the tool I was using (which I thought would be better)was too large and bulky. Hope that helps.

Your transmission takes a little over 3 quarts. With the car level, fill the transmission until the fluid is level with the fill hole. Use Swepco 201.

Oil pump might be handy, there cheap and at the local auto store. It's a pain getting the Swepco thru the side of the tranny with out a pump. I use Parrish/Heacock for my Insurance, for a 12,000 agreed value/0 deductable and a 3,000 mile limit it was $250.00 per year. Must have primary car, garage, over 30 years old and good driving record.

Thumbs up

Use a long piece of clear hose from local home improvement center, about five feet, and feed one end into the transmission and put a funnel on the other end. Run the hose from under the car and set the funnel end on a ladder. (hint: funnel must be hire than the transmission... ). Pour fluid, swepco 201, in until level with fill hole/over flows. Works great and it only cost a couple of dollars for the hose.
