What jack handle and Jack stands should I get?
EDIT: I meant "hydraulic jack and jack stands"
Finally diving head first into the exciting, daunting world of DIY.
What hydraulic jack and jack stands would you recommend I buy?

Oh man, lots of choices. You get what you pay for. I have two floor jacks (poor man's lift) for the front of the car, two 6 ton jacks stands, and 4 two ton.
Start looking at craigslist for good pro quality used stuff.

Like they say you need to be careful. I got my last garage jack from Costco.
I have several sets of jack stands that I accumulated over the years. My last set came from Harbor Freight.

I have a rea;;y good set of jack styands from years ago with ratchet locking stops... they dont work. Found a set at a garage sale about a month ago for $1.50 that are perfect !!! $1.50!!! I almost pissed!
also have 2 floor jacks and have to admit they both suck. One is too tall, the other has poor wheels. If you have space get one with a built in handle that is low profile.
Lastly as much as I hate ramps, I have found them quite useful on the 86' for getting the assup quick and rolling under for whatever (checking bolts, cleaning, ect)

Take a moment and bend in the safety tabs to prevent the top of the jackstand from falling out, but first you might file and clean the ratchet teeth to guarantee a good solid engagement. This is your safety mechanism.
